So how do YOU say it?
First of all let me say I know about 25 words of spanish and I can only pronounce about a 1/4 of them correctly so I am not even a novice in speaking
a foreign language...
SO say it out loud
TIJUANA
Did you say
Tee-JUANA
or
Tee-A-JUANA
I clearly don't how to spell something out the way it is pronounced either

Welcome Fatboy. I follow the "when in Rome" philosophy....
If I'm in Prescott, Arizona, I pronounce it like "biscuit"... and in Tijuana, it's Ti-juana ("Tee cWHAnna" - or something along those lines), not
Tia-juana... but there is a bar called "Tia-Juana Tilly's"...

It's "Tee Jay"...
There are several "authorities" who claim that old maps show it spelled "Tia Juana", but I don't recall where those maps were published and would not
rely on that as a final authority. If there is an historical society in TJ, that would be the authority.
Anyway, it's Tijuana now, 3 syllables, not 4.
All my childhood I wanted to be older. Now I\'m older and this chitn sucks.

Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night
Every gal in Constantinople
Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've a date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul
Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way
So take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works
That's nobody's business but the Turks
All my childhood I wanted to be older. Now I\'m older and this chitn sucks.

Of course, in those two examples the property changed hands, unlike TJ.
