Desert Guitar Music Suggestions

Just got back from the Tucson area where I shot a project which will require music over the opening montage. I'll be including lotsa desert scenery footage in the montage. Client requested some type of guitar music to fit the locale. I'm thinking an instrumental Spanish guitar(s).

Pregunta: Can anyone suggest a performer, group or particular piece that might fit these parameters? Want something highly emotive and dramatic to fit the desert scenery and theme of the piece.

When the voices in my head shut-up, I can almost hear the type of music I need but have no clue as to where to look.
:O:wow::lol:

gracias

On an unrelated note, sure did see (and taste)a lot of ripe pitahaya fruit. Is the growing season in so. Ariz. much earlier than Bajas?

For Spanish Guitar try these composers:

Manuel de Falla

Isaac Albeniz

Dionisio Aguado

Agustin Pio Barrios Mangore

Jorge Cardoso

Do a google search for composer/artist. You'll probably find MP3's or Midi of all these composers.

Camote,

Depending on the ?pulse? you want, here?re a few suggestions. I have all of these and can send you whatever to listen to:

Otmar Liebert ? Several albums, fast paced, heart felt Spanish with Emphasis on guitar but with other instruments.

El Candor Pasa ? Flute of the Andes: Mostly flute, pensive and deep.

Zamfir ? Several albums, also flute, similar to El Candor Pasa but not as husky.

Gipsy Kings - Similar to Otmar Liebert, slightly more emotional vocals

Seville to Santa Fe ? A Spanish Guitar Anthology

John Williams ? Several albums, One is Latin American Guitar Music, By Barrios and Ponce

Havana, the Original Movie Sound Track, Music by Dave Grusin

Spain, World Music ? Folk and Flamenco from Andalucia to Catalonia

Nakai, Emergence, Songs of the Rainbow World ? Native American Flute Music (because your Video is of Arizona)

Spirit World ? Mixed American Indian vocal

Rodrigo, Aldelucia (classical and very moving in parts)

OTHERS THAT MIGHT FIT:

Brazilian: Caetano Veloso Live

Paco de Lucia: Fosforito ? Antique Selections of Flamenco

Duchisela, Ecuador, Music of the Andes, Vol 1-3

Journey to the Amazon, Sharon Isbin ? Guitar, Sax, Percussion

Juan Gabriel, Todo Esta Bien (Vocal)

Ruben Gonzales, Cuban Piano

Eliades Ochoa, Cuban Guitar

Caribe! Caribe! ? Mixed Caribbean blend

Taraf de Haidouks, Romanian Gipsy mixed music - a stretch perhaps, but Gipsy.

An acoustic version of Europa by Carlos Santana. I'll look for one. The electric one is fantastic, but it may be too overpowering depending on the feel you're looking for.

It's not spanish, but most anything by Nakai. I believe he is Navajo. I was listening to him on a star filled clear night in Catavina, and it sent shivers down my spine.

Sort of a needle in a haystack, but if you want something more powerful, try Enya, something without too much celt in it.

Don't forget cuban instrumentals. Far more complex than spanish or mexican.

If it has to be guitar, Andres Segovia leaps to mind. But, among living artists, there are no equals to the Romero family. For cruising Baja, I particularly like Pepe Romero's rendition of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez.

But, if you want to be Arizona-specific, I'd second the Sculpin re: R. Carlos Nakai's Navajo flute, particularly his Canyon Trilogy.

Then again, if you want a more modern, full-orchestral background sound with the feel of driving across a vast open desert toward a bustling city looming on the horizon, get an earful of Gil Evans' Las Vegas Tango.

All my childhood I wanted to be older. Now I\'m older and this chitn sucks.

Try a band called THE BREW out of Austin, Tx. It's traditional acoustic guitar, but with a modern sound.

Good luck with your project.

Wow! :wow:

Ask and ye shall receive! Thanks guys. All great ideas. Luckily I've got some time on this one so I'll be able to do the research.

I'm just thrilled that I was only two notches below "toilet paper" on today's posts.

This is anon Samhain, not the 'last idiot' anon....with a suggestion for the desert theme music. I had the good fortune to have listened to these:

Lo'Jo, "Au Caberet Sauvage" ....also, Tiariwen, "The Radio Tisdas Sessions"...truly great music of the deserts and also of strife...Tiariwen is legendary in the Sahara desert, vocalizing the plight of endangered 'nomads'.
