IGFA Wahoo
This is from Gene Kira's site
"WORLD RECORD SIZE WAHOO!--Sara Hayward with her potential all-tackle record busting 184-pound wahoo caught on the Pez Espada out of Cabo San Lucas,
July 29, 2005. The fish was certified by IGFA representative Minerva Saenz of Minerva's Baja Tackle, and has been submitted for a world record. If
approved, it will easily smash the old record of 158 pounds 8 ounces set in 1996. Photo courtesy Minerva Saenz."

Too many anglers...
Rumor has is it that more than one person handled the gear during the fight. If that's the case it won't be an IGFA record. Nevertheless, that's a big
wahoo.

Minerva is the IGFA representative in Cabo and she clearly states that it was a "clean" application and she expected things to go through very
quickly. Hopefully the rumor is nothing but sour grapes over the fact that this girl caught the fish that someone else wanted to catch.

Sorry to sound like sour grapes, but I cant imagine a deckhand in Cabo allowing a fifteen year old remove the rod from the holder while a big fish is
stripping line. I have a hard enough time getting them to let me handle my own tackle.

Good point Phil C. That does seem a bit unusual to me as well. No sour grapes here at all. Anglers are pretty much on the honor system to report
truthfully how a record catch went down. There's ample opportunity to overlook a violation here or there for the sake of a record. Ever look at the
requirements for a clean record? Lots of little stuff can disqualify it...eg if your line caught on a cleat or something and someone else helped free
it it's disqualified. Perhaps we'll hear more details about the catch in the future.

As Whistler said, if she caught the fish within the guidelines, then she deserves the record. Good for her. That is the top fish on my list that I
have yet to catch. One of these days...
