Just received a summons for jury duty. Since I live here year around and have no intention going north, how do I handle this ?? Use my buddies address
in Ca. for important mail, which gets too often lost here. Anybody been in this situation before,and if yes, how did you handle it ??

I would call them and or write a letter saying why you cant make it.

Bruce is right.
Write them a letter or call them and tell them that you are out of the states and dont know when you will return.
I have done this myself.

has a place to tell why you can't make it. just say you are currently living in Mexico. Mike and I both had to do it. No problemo ,k

FYI
A couple of years back when the subject of jurors not showing up was a hot news item, there was a discussion on one of the TV news programs regarding
the problem. One attorney on the show made the point that, as long as the summons was sent by regular mail, it could not be legally assumed that you
had received it. His suggestion was to NEVER acknowledge receipt. Once you have admitted receiving it, you are completely at the mercy of their
decision.
Of course, you could use George Carlin's method. Respond that you would make the perfect juror because you can just look at someone and know right
away whether or not they're guilty.

I understand your situation living in Baja etc. On the subject of jury duty in general I have found it to be very interesting. I've served on three
juries. One lasted 8 weeks. I was able to juggle my work schedule to make it work.

I don't trust the U.S. legal system. I would not want to be judged by 12 people who weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty.

Dumb Jurors
I have never served on a jury. Back when I worked for Major employers and would have been paid in full for any time taken off, every jury notice I
received was cancelled out. I have either ignored or come up with a valid excuse for all of those notices since.
I have to agree with the anonymous post. Watching TV interviews with the jurors in some of the latest high profile cases reinforces my distaste for
Jury Service. Additionally, I would probably make a very poor juror because I believe firmly in Jury Nullification. If I thought the perp deserved
to go down, I'd go for guilty no matter what the evidence. Conversely, if I thought the victim deserved it, I'd let the accused off.

I would suggest you renounce your U.S. citizenship. That way you won't have to serve this or any other time.
