Baja Ferries?
Have any of you folks travelled on the (new) Baja Ferries from La Paz to the Mexican mainland? Would be very interested in any comments.

BAJA FERRIES
I went from La Paz to Topolobampo last year. The boat was very nice and comfortable. The trip takes about 4 hours, but I don't think they are ever on
time.

Ten years ago I took the 2nd class train from Chihuahua, through the copper canyon, to Los Mochis and continued on via ferry from topolobampo to La
Paz. It was in all respects the trip of a lifetime that I will fondly remember for many many years. At that time both the train and ferry were
very affordable although I can't remember the exact prices.

Thanks to all for the prompt replies.
I did visit the Baja Ferries website before posting here, so I knew about the fees and schedule.
What I wanted to hear, was how good (or bad) the actual boat trip was.
I think we'll give it a try.

Baja ferry, La Paz to Topolobampo
The ferry is wonderful.
Getting your car importation papers at the Pichilingue Ferry terminal take an hour or so, and buying your ferry tickets next takes another hour.
Then waiting in the long line to go thru a "hands on" inspection and driving up onto and inside the huge ferry takes 30 minutes or so.
Once parked inside the bowels of this huge ferry, you will walk up the staircase with all the other passengers to the seating lounge area, or private
cabin if you purchased one for the crossing. You will not be allowed to return back down to your car until you arrive on the other side. Then the
order is announced over the PA system.
The ferry leaves La Paz around 4:30 pm and arrives at 11pm.
It takes time to turn the ferry around, and tie it up securely for unloading. You will watch it all.
There are many, many 18 wheeler trucks using this ferry.
The price for vehicles and each person may seem costly, but worth it as the tip of Baja is like an island!
Have a nice trip, and enjoy your "sea cruise".

Especially the part about the importation paperwork. I was wondering if you could actually get it done right at the ferry terminal, or if you had to
go to a customs office only.
Any additional info you may have about the paperwork will be appreciated.
BTW...our group will be on motorcycles.

You can get the import permit at the boarder ahead of time. Most are open 24 hours, so if you go at an off-hour you can get it fast (<30 minutes).
If you started from mainland, you would have to get it at the border.
