How much for gasoline?
I was wondering how much does one gallon of gasoline costs when purchased in metric units in Baja, Mex?

3.00 a gallon for Pemex Premium today.
This is tha EXACT price for accurately measured gasoline, not just stick the pump nozzle into the car and squeeze.
I just went this morning and filled 7 - 5 gallon red plastic gas cans up.
The pump meter said 153.19 liters flowed out the hose into my 7 gas cans. The money amount was 1105 pesos. Using 10.5 pasos to the dollar, the 35
gallons cost me $ 105.23 DOLLARS.
Doing the math, that's 3.00 dollars per gallon. Period.
And the "magic act", is that the pump dispensed 21.88 liters into a 19 liter gas can. WOW!!!! So for every 5 gallons bought, 3/4 of a gallon is added
to the pay meter, without any fluid.
This is normal in Mexico. I must live with it. All mexicans must.

Ken, almost every month Antonio posts the official Pemex price changes (near the 1st of the month). So, use Nomad search and type in BajaCactus for
the posters name and maybe Pemex for the subject line...
Because of the Mexican socialism (government control) over the station owners ability to make a profit by dictating the price and what the business
can do (and being the only source of product they can sell), it would seem that some owners have to 'bump the pump' to make a living. Antonio has the
Baja Cactus motel to supplement the station, and refuses to be dishonest to his customers.

One advantage of living ON the border- gas is about 20 cents/gal less in San Luis than Yuma, 25 miles to the North. Station owners don't like doing
it but now that Pemex is cheaper, they have to do it to compete. Previously, Mexicans would cross over here and fill up whether it was a few cents
more or a few cents less because (they say, at least) the quality is better. But now that it is quite a bit cheaper, at the moment, in Mexico,
they've stopped coming and some locals are filling up over there. There is never more than a penny or two difference among the half dozen stations
here, name brand or not. San Luisinos are loyal to their favorite stations up to a 5 cent difference. After that it's "Vendala a tu madre,
buey!"

I have 2- 5 gallon plastic gas cans I use as extra (backup) and filled them a week ago at Costco here in Concord. I filled them and left a little air
in the handle. The total for the two was slightly over 11.5 gallons.
Depending on how you fill your cans, you may not be getting such a raw deal.
I am going to empty one today and put 5 gallons exactly and weight it. I will allow for the weight of the plastic. One weighs 36 lbs on my My bath
scale now with 5.75 gallons. The gas can is from Wal-mart so fairly standard. Scale is digital but reads in pounds only so could off by 1/2 lb.
I will be able to tell you what the empty plastic can weighs exactly as I have a letter scale that weighs in ounces to 5 lbs. Weight is the only way
you will be sure if a station is shorting you. I will try to get this done today, but may have rush out to buy boat.

Weight of gasoline depends on the API gravity of the gasoline.
This varies by grade and refinery.
Usually, regular unleaded gasoline has a gravity of around 58 and a weight per gallon of 6.216 pounds per gallon.
Premium gasoline may have a gravity of 54, or 6.350 pounds per gallon.
1 gallon of gasoline equals 5.8 to 6.5 lbs.

Gas also expands and contracts with heat and cold...you get more gas when it's COLD outside!!!

I think all of you are may be right to some extent.
I just remembered (rumor) they are pumping air into gas.
I still going to (if I get off the keyboard) mark my cans to do tests.
