surf fishing cabo area

I will be coming down to cabo next week and would like to do some shore fishing probably mostly at night. Any suggestions as to areas and techniques would be appreciated. yes I know the farther from cabo the better but I am stuck in that general area

Try around the San Jose estuary. No, you cannot fish IN the estuary, but shore fishing is best there. You can either park around El Presidente and walk toward Punta Gorda or you can park by the fishing palapas in La Playita and walk back toward El Presidente. Just be aware that at times the estuary breaks through...dont get swept out to sea, please.
You may even luck out and catch a snook. If you do, please call me and I will help you eat it:yes:

Could not find ranger lures on the net.
Could you explain more?

Go to Minverva's tackle shop in Cabo San Lucas and buy two or three blue and white Ranger lures. If you have a surf spinning outfit that is best. If not, a good jig or even bait stick with a high speed retrieve conventional reel will do the trick (something like a Penn 505 Highspeed). The hotel beaches along the corridor are good. If you want some quiet, go the the Pedregal entrance, leave your driver's license with the guard and go down to the Pedregal beach. You should have it pretty much to yourself this time of year.

You can also try this. Go to Minerva's and get a few surf leaders with 2 oz. surf sinkers. The Aramburo grocery store downtown usually has squid at the fish counter at the back of the store. Pin some cut squid on the two hooks and toss it out just the other side of the surf line. Sometimes you can catch a lot of small Pompano that way. Not big, but a lot of fun.

Do not be put off by the CSL naysayers on this and other forums. The town can be busy with tourists, but two blocks up town it is mostly Mexican and a delight. Solitude is easy to find if you know where to look. Now you do.

Have fun!
