Halibut fishing in Alaska
I am planning a Trip for halibut at Homer . I have never been there and would like some Help.
Iwill be going next July for at least 3 days with 3 other people. Looking for a Good fisherman- No Frills just good fishing Outfit.. any help is
Appreciated.

Fished there this June, great time. I fished with Tacklebuster on the Homer spit, good time by all. I would go with them again, despite the $175 a
head. Aleast the party boat only had 5 of us. Brought home lotsa Halibut, still eating it. Pricey though. Also had fun shore fishing on the ocean side
of the fishing hole for Kings.

Been there but it was work related and I didnt get to fish, but I did see 200 pounders hanging on the racks. Good luck Skeet

beware of the 1/2 day trips. they limit asap on smakker ones and won't throw bach any. On the all day trips they don't mind tossing little ones (6-10
lbs) back in hope of heftier ones (20+). The real big ones aren't as common as before, but still there (sound familiar??)

Hi Skeet,
I will ask a few Buddies that I work with that live down there who they would go out with. I fish out of Seward when I get the chance, halibut,
lingcod, yelloweye snapper. Don't forget the salwater runs of salmon !

Skeet: bring lots of black garbage bags and duct tape - this is the only friggin' way you're gonna get some shut-eye. Also - just my 2 cents - but
catching halibut is a lot like work. A 5 foot rod with an Penn 114 loaded with dacron - just like dragging up a volkswagon. The size of the sinker
alone is just way beyond what any fisherman should have to deal with. After I got my regulation 2, I sat down and watched puffins. More fun.

I caught an 85 Lb halibut while trolling for Salmon on the Bank outside of Ucluet, B.C. . Was trolling down on the Bottom with Herring.
Is it best to stay in a Lodge/with your fishing charter people.??

I'll second that about heavy wieghts. The tide runs 7knots ! Ive had to use 24oz -32oz of weight to keep bait/jigs on bottom. Best bet is to fish days
with the smallest difference in high /low tides. Tide book says July 1-5,18-20,30-5 Aug. Don't fish Clam tides (-), go up to Deep Creek- Clam Gulch
& dig.

Alaska is its own wilderness, as unique in its way as Baja is in its way. However you fish, whatever you fish for, take time to enjoy the country.
It is AWESOME.

Can't say enough about the beauty of Alaska. In June we rented a RV and drove all over the Kenai peninsula, magnificient, great fishing. Only way to
go, just avoid July 4th weekend. Alaska is RV heaven, well set up.
I'd be happy to share some photos, how does one do that, image hosting, etc??
Off to cabo in the morning!!!!
