Johnny Johnson

I have a friend who's trying to contact Johnny Johnson in Loreto. Johnny is a former off road racer and many time winner of the Baja 1000. I understand he is living on a boat in Loreto. An address or phone number would be appreciated. If he wants to know who's looking for him, it's Bob Bower. He'll know who he is.

TW, about 3 years ago 'Alejandra de Baja' met Johnny in La Paz (where he was then living, on on a yacht?) and told me about this 'fellow' who introduced himself as a former Baja 1000 winner, etc. I said, "yes in 1973 he and Bobby Ferro teamed and drove a single seat buggy to win the 1000". I know he also won and raced more years, as well.

Isn't 'Johnson's Bug Works' in Santee originally his?

They should answer to the call sign Topaz unless they changed the name of the boat. Rather than ask for johnny johnson people know them as John & Nancy.

Johnny was great in the single seaters when we first broke into the Baja deal in 1972.
Then he got involved in the big front engine V-8 single seater that Mickey Thompson was originally working with.
It was fast as lightning on the straights, and a real slug in the rough.
We stormed around him in a Laguna Salada BRA race in our Old Blue truck somewhere around 1975...

Here is a photo I took of Johnny Johnson's racer in Ensenada during registration the day before the 1000 he won (with co-pilot Bobby Ferro)...

Johnny lives in Juncalito, south of Loreto.

Comes into town about 2-3 times a week, likes to hang out a MaCaws for happy hour. He is part to the sailboat network out of Puerto Escondido.

Bob and Johnny raced together in the some earlier Baja races, Johnny I think has 15-16 class wins at the Baja 1000 over the years.

I spoke with Johnny again yesterday. He does not know how to get ahold of the gentleman looking for him. He does not have access to a computer and would appreciate it if any contact info could be sent to us at iguanainn@yahoo.com and we will pass it on to him.
Gracias
