east cape road as of 10/20/03
You can't make it all the way thru. We went in the cabo pulmo way and had no problem. One spot a few miles in off the pavement had some deep water
(bottom of the doors on an exterra). Cabo pulmo looked ok. A lot of hurricane debris around. We made it all the way to the vinoramas arroyo Where we
visited Pino the colorful italian who advised us that it would not be possible to travel much further and visit our friend Lou The ex winery owner.
Pino told us Lou was hard hit by the hurricane with extensive roof damage and his telephone tower toppled (a local landmark). So we took the palo
escopetta turn off to join up with the main highway just near the airport. No problems on that leg at all. We saw several backhoes on the east cape
and escopetta road working so all is slowly getting filled in and repaired.

beach road open??
hi was wondering if the beach road was open from bahia de los muertos to los barriles??
also from burna vista to la ribera was also hoping to take the beach road from la ribera to san jose del cabo via cabo pulmo,los frailes,punta gorda
we will be driving a ford excursion 4 wheel drive and would be going about mid jan any info would be apreachated for any leg of this road thanks have

Jerry! the muertos to barriles road you will not make in your vehicle unless you want some baja pinstriping. buena vista to la ribera no problem and
la ribera to los cabos in open also. fishin rich

thanks a bunch buddy for the info glad i asked its not my rigg but i think this gringo might take offence to baja pinstripping lol the other roads

how 'bout a 40' bus??
Wondering if a 40' 96" wide highway coach will make it into Cabo Pulmo from the north? I know it is unpaved much of the way but I am wondering about
washouts, debris etc. I drove in there last year with no problem. Of course, that was last year.

Hummm I don't think it wise for a 40' right now. At least as of 4 weeks ago when I last went down it. Some serious dips that I think a 40' would
bottom out on. Best scout ahead.

I just drove from San Jose throught Palo Escopeta and on to Los Frailes yesterday. The road is open but is very washboard after the rains with
several spots washed out (only one lane). The first arroyo north of Vinorama still has quite a bit of water in it. It was passable and took about an
hour and a half. (15 min more to Cabo Pulmo) The road to Pulmo is also fine, as they recently fixed the puddles at Las Lagunitas.

Anyone have an update??
Planning on driving the coast road from SJDC up through Cabo Pulmo to Los Barilles on the 23rd of March, would love to know condition of the road if
anyone has been on it recently.

I drove from north from SJDC two weeks ago on the coast road. It is passable. There are a couple of arroyos that are still running, and there are
numerous washouts (one lane). There were several spots where the road completely disappeared into a sinkhole, and a three point turn was necessary to
get around it. 4X4 was not needed, although I don't think I'd attempt it with a small passenger car, camper, or trailer.
The trip was gorgeous! Have a great time.

Thanks for the reply. I drove it on the 25th, just as you described, but no running arroyo's by then. It's been graded from Cabo Pulmo down to Boca or
so, so was pretty fast after that.
