La Fonda de Rio's new menu

As anticipated, our group went to La Fonda del Rio this past Saturday night.

Very disappointed with the change in the menu. It's got a real gringo feel to it now; very few traditional Mexican dishes listed and the prices seemed to be about 25% higher than when we were last there. What the hell, no mole at a nice restaurant like this? If i want salmon, I'lll get it stateside.

We decided to make the rather sheepish exit after seeing the menu and walked down the hill to Palapa Jose, where the meal was, as usual, quite good and quite reasonable. I had a huge white sea bass fillet that I had them do empanizado style and had them bring out a side of al mojo de ajo. Best of both worlds! The wife had the fish taco plate which was better than the fish tacos you get at most any stand. And one in our party ordered the molcajete dish; this time with pollo instead of camarones. XLNT as usual! So, four margaritas, two beers, two cokes (and add one chicken marsala dinner) and, including tax, it was 56.00 for four people. For the quality and portions, it was very reasonable. Soups or salads included with everything but the molcajete dish.

Very disappointed in the substantial menu change at Del Rio. I hope the happy hour hasn't been affected. They had good grub and good drink deals.

The place was empty at 8pm on a Saturday night so maybe I'm not alone in my displeasure with the new prices/menu.

Hook, is Palapa Jose between La Fonda and the La Mision hotel?

David, it's on the beach below del Rio. Towards the South. IMO, not worth the effort (but I don't like much of anything down here).

Dave's got it right.......

.....well, at least the directions.:P Edit: Actually, it's slightly to the north below Del Rio.

I am partial to the fish dishes at P.J.s, but they have italian as well as mexican traditionals.

Good for breakfast, too, but I prefer Paola's or Maganas.
