Road to Punta Canoas?
We plan to be at El Marmol on April 22nd and from there would like to go to Punta Canoas. Does anyone have any information on the road condition and
how long does it take to get there from Mex 1? We have several trucks including a few 4wd.
Thanks

I was over there in November 05 and the road via Santa Catarina was what I consider very good condition having been graded in the past year. Santa
Caterina has some very nice camp sites. The views once you pass Santa Cartarina if it is not foggy are tremendous. I returned via the same route so I
don't know how the other road is. I can't tell you how long it takes because I stop often to look, take pictures and hike. It is 20 miles to the road
fork to Puerto Cartarina and about another 20 to Punta Canoas. If they have not had rain the roads should be good. A could probably be driven easy in
2 hours. I plan to spend much more time exploring the area.

I highly recommend you drive the four miles to El Volcan if you are going to El Marmol! See my Trip Report photos here on Nomad from a couple weeks
ago! Here's one of the Geyser/Volcano there... on 1-21-06

EL Volcan
Three miles west of my Casa I have a great view of EL Volcan from KM 54S on Highway 5, I have often thought how exciting it would be for the residents
of the south camps if someone set off a huge black smoke from the peak some clear morning!
If you have a telephoto lens camera you can get some good shots of the gulf from some spots up there.
On our next trail finding expedition from there to the Gulf I am bringing a five million CP light and try for line of sight contact. Most everyone
uses 2 meter ham for Com's now or GRMS.

El Volcan smoking?....like the Alaskan practical joker who hauled several tires to the top of a dormant volcano in Alaska over a period of years, then
set fire to them one fine morning. It caused 'a little panic' amongst the villagers below. I am glad I would never be a party to such an
event...sniff, sniff.
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

Good idea Mac.. Panama, the mechanic in Puertecitos, buried his dog up there. Maybe he'll show us the trail, if you'll help me with the tires. It's
practically in our back yard from Bahia Christina.........

Oso you are correct my spelling is off. I noticed my error when I created my profile. Maybe you can help. I tried to edit my profile but could not
figure out how to change Comadante to Comandante.
Thanks
