Baja Birds
Yesterday I saw a magnificent, large bird perched atop one of the Cardons in back of our house.I thought it might be a Falcon.Anyone ever seen these
in Baja? And does anyone have a website to direct me to identify this bird? Thanks,Sally

Hi Sally, hope all's well with you and yours.
A site with some great photos of Baja birds is that of our fellow Nomad, Gringorio. It also has some good information, including info on other sites
for bird identification. Check it out.

Hey Sallysouth,
If it was Cara Cara, that's pretty cool! I've never seen one in the wild and only learned about them from other Nomads.
If you were thinking it was a falcon it could have been an osprey..?
Here's a couple links from Baja Nomad and BajaBirding that shows the Cara Cara:

Any chance you can get a photo of it?

Sally
Did he look like this?
This guys(guy) was ready to have parakeets for breakfast. He or one of his family actually carried off a small parakeet cage at my neighbors house.
He dropped it when they started throwing stones at him. The parakeets inside were wide eyed, as were mine. It was totally quiet on my porch when
this pic was taken.

Hi Nomads, It could have been a Cara-Cara,but definatly not an Osprey(seen many of those in and around the SOC).I don't think it was the bird in Judys
picture. It didn't have such pronounced markings on the chest. The thing was huge and I haven't seen it since. We`were putting the babies in the truck
when my 2 yr old spotted it! She has the eyesight of a fishing captain!Tried to run up the stairs to get the camera and, well, he had flown away...I
wish I could have seen him take flight! He was perched atop a Cardon that overlooks a piece of land that is loaded with Jackrabbits, mice, etc. He was a
light tan/brownish,with the beak of a Hawk or Falcon. The sun was straight up so it was kinda hard to make out his markings.I'll keep an eye out and
the camera ready, just in case he returns. All is well with the newest Baja Baby and family. Thanks for asking Natalie Ann, and sorry I missed you again
Judy!! Going home(?) next week but will be back in a month or two. Thanks for the link to Gringorios pics, etc.,Sally
