La Paz eatery....does this ring a bell?
Several years ago we stumbled upon this place, it was a few blocks off the malecon.....you had to walk upstairs, where it overlooked the street. Their
specialty was a caesar salad they made at your table, and chateaubriand. VERY reasonably priced! I cannot remember the name of the place or the
location...does this ring a bell to anybody???
ALso, if anyone has any new eatery recommendations, would love to hear and gear up for our upcoming yearly trip!

Now quit that!
AArrgghh!..not fair talking about FOOD! To late for lunch and too soon for dinner...sigh.
Hope we all can find that mysterious La Paz eatery sometime.
Judy...your fish soup is vunderbar, I'm sure! UpNorth we are freezing our burros off and must make do with some homemade sopa de pollo y de al bola
de masa hervida....or as us Northlanders call it...chicken and dumpling soup.
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

Quote: | A few blocks off the Malecon, upstairs? That's pretty unique, and no bells here. Might be the now-defunct place that was upstairs on the corner of 16
de septiembre and the pasaje back of Dorian's. Only place I've ever noticed chateaubriand was the restaurant at Los Arcos.

Los Arcos Chateaubriand are excellent, but price has escalated from $11.00 for two, to $ 22.00 in the last few years. Used to be excellent value, but
now average.
Their salad bar is outstanding though.

I'm really beginning to think that perhaps I was experiencing one of those
twilight zone moments! It was a great and memorable meal, an abundance of margaritas........and NO ONE seems to know of this place!!!............
I agree about Los Arcos, though still not a bad deal!

msrla---------you are not going to be happy----
-------with my answer.
We were in La Paz for 6 days in Feb. of 2000, staying at the Cabanas de Los Arcos (which, by the way, are fantastic). The first day we were walking
around, we struck up a conversation with a "local" ex-pat. He referred us to the place I am pretty sure you are talking about. Your description fits
where we went to a "T", and the Chateau Briand was supurb. It was a hang-out for the local ex-pats, and there were several there, both nights that we
ate there.
For the life of me, I cannot remember the name, but it was an elegant name, as I recall. I checked my pics and notes, but do not find any help there.
I do remember that the Chateaubriand was NOT on the menu---you had to ASK for it, and then they all (the waiters) got excited and they turned on the
service, and made the evening perfect. It was very inexpensive, for what you got-----like "chateaubriand for two" for $24 usd, or something like that,
and the meal was so elegant that it took about 3 hours for the entire ceremony.
You are not losing your mind-----the place deffinitely existed!! (hopefully still does)
2 years ago, I again was in La Paz for 3 nights, and we looked for the place for about 20 min. on foot, but nothing seemed that familiar in the area I
was convinced it had been in, and I could not even find the street for sure that I felt it was on----strange. Very dissappointing. I am convinced
that it is still there, and I will look for it again the next time I am in La Paz. It was outstanding!!!!! It was slightly south of the main plaza (I
think), but I am not sure how far (1 to 4 blocks??)
My wife confirms all this, but unfortunately cannot add to what I have told you here.

Somehow screwed up the previous reply. 2 or 3 years ago Baja Steve and I had dinner in a place that sounds just like you describe. Good food and
good prices. Don't remember the name but it was not far from the Hotel Yneka. I think I could find it again. Steve, if you're reading this do you
remember the place. I seem to recall having some great Barbacoa for about five bucks.

I think it's so funny that a couple of us seem to remember stumbling upon this place and how good it was, but we each can't remember exactly where it
was and the name! Maybe we were all lucky enough to step into another reality for a couple hours of La Paz dining enjoyment???
Well I hope not! I hope someone can shed some light on this mysterious place! Barry, you're right, it was kind of an elegant name, and the place,
although simple in decor, did have a certain elegant ambiance to it! My husband remembers they brought the menu over to us on a chalkboard, and the
Ceasar salad made at your table was their specialty!!!!!!!!!! Just goes to show you, in the future, if we should stumble upon another gem, we will
make a point of remembering name and location!!!

There is some extra terestrial thing working here-----
I normally take very detailed notes on things that we find that we like------I cannot explain why there is a complete lack of info on this place in my
notes from that trip-----someplace I KNOW that I have documented it. When I find it, I will post it-----the place is that good (if it still
exists)
The thing that really puzzles me is that no "locals" that frequent this board have chimed in to end our agony-----they must know something, and they
just ain't talking.

Kurt and I were there. I tried to find it a couple of years ago with no luck. This year I was in the same area in Feb. and I think I found where it
was but no longer there. Across the street we went into a little hotel that look like a junk shop when you first walked in but when inside there was a
nice open area and a few rooms. I was standing in front of the Hotel and looked up to where the restaurant was. (i think)
Kurt How are you doing sorry about not hooking up in Mulege in Dec.

they had great everything. all they laked was promotion. we ate there many times and got to now the owners very well. but never could convince them of
the value of advertising. we spent many days and hours working with them and exchanging kitchen techniques.
