insurance in el norte
Now that we are living full time in Baja Sur, we have cancelled our insurance policies on our California registered cars. We are going to make a two
week trip north to alta cali soon and need a temporary policy for up there. Anyone know of an on-line source?
No b-tchin\' in the Baja.

Assuming you plan on returning to California for a short time you might check with your old company. Most companies don't write short term polciies
in the U.S. but there may be a few. Check with Lewis and Lewis in Beverly Hills or Bob Acosta at San Xavier Mexico Insurance in Nogales AZ.
Acosta phone # is 888-377-1570. In addition you could purchase a policy in the States and than put all the coverage on suspension except the Comp and
your company would give you credit for the unused Liability and collision portion as long as you could prove you were in Mexico and had Mexico
Insurance.. I am sure there are other solutions. Please let us know how it works ourt. Good Luck!
I know Camping Worlds' insurance with GMAC has that kind of option. However, if you don't have an address in the U.S. that probably wouldn't work

Today in Santee I saw a car's back window sticker that showed a man, woman and child holding hands running*... below that was the words:
'got papers?'
*same as the one on the warning sign near the border and San Onofre immigration checkpoint.

Didn't you say that his wife was already obtaining free hospitalization?
I believe that everyone who operates a vehicle should be licensed, and insured. Even if they're from Mars. Obviously you don't.
Then...I hope you enjoy the fact that it's your insurance company that will pay for the damages... And you the
increased premiums.

----------"uninsured motorist insurance", to protect me from folks that do not have any insurance, or are here illegally.
Bottom line (IMHO) : Anything that stems from something illegal, is illegal-----thus no person here "illegally" should be able to obtain anything
that only "legal" people are entitled too------period! The adherance to "rule of Law" is what separates us from much of the rest of the world, and
allows us to prosper.
Last time I checked, we were the most prosperous country in the world, along with a few others that abide by "USA like" principals.
What you seem to be proposing would totally errode that------the "slippery slope" concept------I think that we should stick with the "rule of Law".

Barry, You hit the nail on the head and this problem should have been addressed long ago. I understand there was a power failure in D.C. today, I
believe this power failure occurred long ago when our elected representatives ignored the issue. One of the problems developed is that illegals and
those that hire them, knowingly or not, have caused pay rates to be less and affected those immigrants who are here legally. In addition, by lowering
the pay some unskilled Americano wont do the work either. Still there are Americans doing this work. Supply and demand? Much supply from South of
The Border.

Does anyone know the answer to El Jefe's question. I remember that someone told me that you can get temp insurance on line and I would love to have
that information should I ever have to venture north of the border again.....dog forbid.

Believe it or not, I'm not debating immigration policy. Just that it would be better if all drivers were insured, which can't happen unless they are
also licensed.
Since I drive but don't live in California I'll leave you to deal with all the other crap. I simply want what happened to you, not to
happen to me. Logic tells me I stand a better chance if more drivers are licensed and insured.

-------all members of my family (10+folks) including me, have been with State Farm for the past 49 years, and we have NEVER had any problems with
claims----------what are you talking about???? One of the best insurance companies in the World, and the most reasonable, for what you get. State
Farm gets ALL my insurance business, except for my Mexican Insurance.

Found the info I needed through my old insurance company in the states.
We got a three week liability only policy for $70 bucks. Only $100K combined liability, so if anything really bad happens I'll have to ditch the car
and run for the border.
They did not offer collision. It is from National Unity Insurance Company out of San Antonio TX. Only for Mexican Citizens or full time residents of
Mx.

Now, as far as those hard working souls that violate our law to come to our country to do the dirty work are concerned, I have to agree with a lot of
the article in the SD Union yesterday by Thomas Friedman. We need a high "fence" in the form of a tamper resistant national Id card, without which one
could not get work. And a big "gate" in the form of a guest worker program that legitimized the influx of the needed work force.
OK, back to having fun, but don't forget who changes your sheets at the motel 6.
No b-tchin\' in the Baja.
