Snorkeling is excellent in Chileno Bay, the bay on which Hotel Cabo San Lucas sits. It's been a long time since I've been there so take that into account. There is decent snorkeling at Cabo Pulmo. The best snorkeling in the east cape area, in my opinion, is right off the Hotel Punta Pescadero, but that is a ways north. There are patch reefs all up and down the coast from San Jose del Cabo to Las Arenas, all offer good snorkeling and varying degrees of difficulty as far as access. But if you want the best, take a trip up to Punta Pescadero and spend a day there (better, stay there for a few days).

Pelican Rock - near Playa del Amor (Cortez side), Bahia Chileno, Bahia Santa Maria (crowds here though - so beware).

Chileno used to be very, very good but since the rains of '93 the bottom contour and compisition has changed making it only OK now. Lovers Beach (Playa de Amores) is a good bet because Pelican Rock and Neptunes Finger and easy snorkels. Stay away from the Pacific side. While there is an overland trail to this beach it is much easier to grab a water taxi.
Santa Maria remains one of the best bets because of its easy access and the variety of sea life to be seen. Plan to go during the week and never on a Sunday to minimize the crowd issue. Both Playa de Amores and Santa Maria have no dedicated vendors although most of the time an entrapenure(sp) or two may be selling water I would plan to take food and drink with me. Enjoy..............

On all Cape area dives currents are an important consideration. Watch the tides, ask around, be careful. If you get sucked the next stop is Peru.
