Pacifico Beer Goes Local for Authenticity (in U.S.)

CHICAGO -- Laid-back Baja California locals not only were cast as the talent but also scouted the secret beach locations just north of Cabo San Lucas
for shooting Pacifico Beer's latest print and outdoor campaign, breaking next month.
Seven executions created by Creature, Seattle, will appear in Maxim, FHM, Backpacker, Playboy, Esquire, Men's Health, Sports Illustrated, Giant,
Popular Mechanics, ESPN and Rolling Stone magazines. The outdoor effort will run through the summer in Denver, Los Angeles, Monterey, Phoenix, San
Diego, San Francisco and Sacramento/Stockton.
The creative shows Baja's rugged beauty and friends enjoying surfing, playing guitars and Pacifico Beer. The images are so authentic, contends the
agency creatives, that even the fish used in one shot was caught by a snorkeling talent in the morning and became dinner for the entire crew's
post-production celebration.
"Pacifico is indigenous to the pure Baja experience," Matt Peterson, Creature's co-founder and creative director, said in a statement. "We wanted the
Baja crowd?the authenticity-seekers and those who dream of being there?to see a bit of themselves in these executions."
Pacifico is brewed by Grupo Modelo Brewery in Mexico and imported in the Western U.S. by Barton Beers, Chicago. Pacifico spent $835,000 on advertising
last year, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus. No spend was available for the upcoming campaign.

I'm a Pacifico fan, but when news like this comes out I can't help but think of Max Von Sydow as the Brewmeister in "Strange Brew" with the McKenzie
Bros. I may not remember verbatim but one scene with those 3 went something like this:
Von Sydow: "You know vot makes a grrrrreat bier?"
The Hosers start throwing out "the hops?, the barley?, the water? etc. etc.
"Nein, nein. Iss all chust pee-colored vater. Marketink! Dot's vot makes a grrreat bier, marketink!"

pacifico is
Mexican budwieser since Anheuser- busch bought them out. It is nowhere near the beer it used to be. now it is watered down chit.

Pacifico is one beer that tastes as good here in the states as it does in Baja.
Tecate, on the other hand tastes much better in Baja.
I understand it is because the importers for Tecate get it from Monterrey (?) and not the original brewery in Baja.
Actually all beer tastes 'better' in Baja... if you know what I mean?!!!

I did the Pacifico tour....
.....about a month ago when I was in Mazatlan. Pacifico produces one style for export and one for domestic consumption. According to the foxy senorita
who was conducting the tour, the export is only 3.5% alcohol while the domestic is 4.5%. Negra Modelo is 5.5%.
It's taken me awhile to become a fan of Pacifico because I have found that it can vary greatly from batch to batch. As it is a little heartier brew
than Tecate, I am wondering if it is more prone to going "skunk" if it is not cared for in shipping. Anyway, I have gotten a fair amount of skunk ones
up here but almost never get bad Tecates. I buy in bottles almost exclusively, especially in Mexico.
The Pacifico in Maz was excellent! They actually produce a limited number of kegs for distribution in the Mazatlan area. REALLY GOOD!!

Just saw your question. It's still there and seems as popular as ever.
We did not eat there as we were tipped off by locals about a place called Dunia's. They do nothing but prepare shrimp al gusto that you buy from the
shrimp market about 100 feet away and bring to them. They also sell beer. That was our shrimp fix. It's in the old downtown area and doesnt have the
view of E.S.B.
