How ironic

Locally, the parents of the Mexican children let their kids stay home Monday in support of their so-called rally. Never saw a rally.
Shows how much they care about the (unbelievably)expensive education their kids are getting for free here in Oregon.
Brilliant, punish the kids education.
WTF are these people thinking?

Same in Washington; they take advantage of a great opportunity to educate their kids, then cut a day of the kids education. This not only hurts the kids but also caused the schools that support these kids to loose portions of their state funds for that day. And now the teachers also have to spend additional time helping the kids catch-up.

Talk about biting the hand that feeds !!

Is the teachers' only complaint more $$$$ ??

Is there a shortage of teachers in Baja ?

Can't they be fired or replaced ?

Two sides to every story. How much do the teachers want?

What a shame

The teachers in this state vie for funds. The schools get evaluated for performance regularly. They get regular report cards like students do. By failing to administer corrective measures for troublesome students some schools don't reflect the problems bynot reporting behavorial problems, hence they receive a better grade, hence more money. Also the teachers have been motivated tio "teach to test" which only leaves the students without covering other necessary material and pushes the teacher down a narrow path.
State mandatory benchmarks and evaluation of achievement of scholastic and behavior in individual schools may result in closures, cutbacks and a larger population of tenured teachers who should already be retired. Our schools need new fresh young motivated teachers. Not some old school has-been who has trouble connecting with students and shows little enthusiasm for the job. Part of this problem lies in the fact that teachers wages have not increased much compared to other fields. In fact some educators have had reduced salaries. It is a tough enough job and a honourable one. Shame on those who use our children as pawns.
Afterall, if it wernt fer dem kids them thar teechers wood not hav a job!
