If you want some peace and quiet, avoid Percebu, IMHO. Also, you might be able to make a long term deal with a campo owner if you want to move a trailer to one of their spots on a semi-permanent basis. Would be a low-cost option unless or until you decide to put out some serious money on a casita.

Prices rance from $15,000 to $165,000 and facilities from covered slab with deck on top and water tank to 2 bdrm, 2 bath home with solat, fridge etc.

Dean & Barbara Anderson I belive have thier house for sale at Percubu also. But looking farther south ,there are at least two houses for sale at Campo Christina, Not REAl spendy but ofcourse not as fancy as some places. Think Alfredo might be out of lots to lease just now tho, it might be worth checking out tho as it's a nice quiet place and usually Alfredo & Wife there 24/7.

Is it fair to say that the best way to find the right place would be to just drive down to some of these campos and see what's avaliable?

Is it ok to just drive into the campos without being invited?

Go and See

Nothing can substitute for seeing yourself.

My recommendation is to do that looking on one of the many BIG Gringo Holidays, say Memorial Day. That way you'll know the WORST that's in store for you.

I am reminded of my Wacky Sister who married a guy from Montana. He talked her into visiting Montana with the objective of moving there. They checked it out in August. After moving, she spent five years being totally miserable each Winter. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB. They should have visited in JANUARY.

Yes it is perfectly acceptable to drive down any of the roads leading to campos. Even the smallest usually has some sort of sign indicating that there is something at the end of the road.
If you come to a gate it is ok to go through (close gate behind you) as long as the gate is not "locked" with a rope tied around it. I don't think there are any leading to the beach, but I haven't been down all the roads.
If you find someone at the end of the road it is polite to introduce yourself, say hi and then ask any questions you might have. Only you really know exactly what you are looking for. MrBillM is correct, go scouting on a holiday. Some of these places are insane crazy at certain times of the year.

ASK a LOT of questions! Usually if you find a person at the end of the road in they will be happy to answer your questions has been our experience. Be couteous, you just might make a new friend and be invited to stop & visit awhile. We have had a hard time sometimes just getting away again! Most of them encorage your questions. We have sometimes found no one or Nothing at the end of the road! :?:
