June 24, 2006

TIJUANA ? Tijuana has been granted $29.54 million for infrastructure projects from the Border Environment Cooperation Commission and the North American Development Bank. The loans will be used for street paving aimed at improving air quality and for the purchase of solid-waste collection equipment.

The cost of the projects is estimated at $59.1 million. The remainder of the money will be supplied by city and federal grants.

Since the commission and the bank were created by the North American Free Trade Agreement, $150 million in grants and loans have been provided for projects in Baja California.
