INSURANCE OPTIONS FOR BAJA RESIDENTS

OK, so now I have a truck with baja sur plates and would like to know what the options are for insurance from you wise ones. I talked to the adjuster in Guerrero Negro and the basic plan is 2,000 pesos and 6,000 for full coverage, theft etc. My thinking was that if you get insurance from them that it will be easier to deal with them when something happens, even though I think they deal with most claims in this area. I'd like to know how others do it, I also noticed that Banorte has an insurance plan for vehicles too...anybody know anything about this?
Also anybody looking for a vehicle in Ensenada....our friend who's son does this...he goes to auctions etc. and folks just tell him what they want and he looks around Ensenada and he's awesome, professional and a real nice guy and does it all for ya including registering, plates etc. and that makes it real easy and he's hooked into lots of vehicles there.

If you imported your truck tell us about it. The insurance prices are high compared to La Paz, Liability 1600 pesos, Full 4500 pesos. Qualitas. In La Paz the biggest charge is for theft if your not worried about theft get that deduction.

Speaking of Insurance in Baja Sur....this is a question for the American folks who have a business in baja.

Where/who do you get your business insurance????

As in the states, the rates are based on the make & model year of the vehicle & blue book value. If the vehicle carries US plates, you can only get "Tourist Insurance", which is a higher rate than if you were insuring the same vehicle with Mexican plates.

To deal with English-speaking people, you could contact Lewis & Lewis: Website www.MexicanAutoInsurance.com, e-mail Cbrettnow@cs.com or www.bajabound.com, which is advertised on this site.

They can also provide you with information to insure a business.

I got quoted from the Insurance lady in Guerrero Negro, 2,000 pesos for a year for basic coverage which gave 50,000 pesos for 3rd party liability and the delux package for theft and everything was 6,000 pesos. I bought the Suburban already imported in Ensenada as I had heard some nightmare stories about importing...having vehicles impounded for several weeks till things got done etc. So I think it was well worth buying one already imported. I got a paper from the cops too stating it wasn't stolen as well. Like I said, our pal did everything and it was awesome and simple.

Larry, if I believe what two different insurance companies have quoted me, then yeah, I'm sure....but you know how gulliable I am! :tumble: But you'd have to get a quote on a small yacht, for your land cruiser; it's bigger than some small foreign countries! Be glad size isn't factored into the rate!;D
