Recommendation for vehicle insurance???
Nomads,
I have used different insurers for the past trips to Baja (truck or motorcycle). What company do you recommend for:
- best coverage response;
- allowing repairs to be done in USA;
- etc......
I will need 5 weeks coverage for pick-up truck.
I understand the application process and types of coverage....just looking for "the best company" more than "the best deal"....if they are one in the
same, all the better.

I've used three or four internet sellers, and Vagabundos. For this year's insurance I used Lewis and Lewis for both cars. I have Mexican homeowner's
insurance with them, and they did a good job last summer keeping my coverage intact after the insurer dumped all their homeowner policies. And their
rates were good.
You do need to give them a few days as they mail the policy instead of having you print it out from the website. Their site is at:

I am pretty sure that policies from Lewis and Lewis do not allow you to fix your car in the states, and they also settle claims based upon Mexican
labor rates. Do you know any of the details of the auto coverage you had with them Don?
If you want service, I would suggest policies from Genworth Seguros (formerly GE Seguros), GNP or ACE Seguros. You can do a google search for "mexican
insurance" and find many different agencies to choose from to get a policy online.

The L&L insurance policy is from Qualitas. I've read the policy and it is unclear what would happen if we opted for a stateside repair. Assuming
the adjuster acts within 72 hours, he would assign a shop, I assume in Baja. I've always assumed that if we needed repairs, our first choice would be
to have them done in Baja; for us having them done in the states would incur significant uncovered expenses and be a real pita.
But yes, for an insured living in, say, Southern California who wanted any repairs done at home, that would be something to look into.
