Radar detectors in Baja (I've read the past posts...)
Think my question has not been addressed.
Up North, I haven't had a speeding ticket in 30 years. Just doesn't happen. I'm not in a hurry and the highways I drive are 70-75mph's which is
plenty fast for me.
I'm not in a hurry down South either. If I had a concern about speeding, it would be because of inconsistent speed's posted and not making the
transition from kilometers to mph. That might sound goofy, but I'm telling you that's how my mind works. Can't do basic math.
Anyway, question is this: are detectors illegal in Baja?
If they are, that pretty much settles it for me.
If it's OK, then I'm wondering how checkpoints feel about detectors if they see one?
I'm not into hiding one and getting caught, so I would either be fine with it on the seat, or not have one at all.
I don't have this gadget up North, maybe I don't need one down South.

Well I know what you mead about inconstancies.....Good at posting to tell you to reduce speed, but they want you to guess to resume.
The trick is tape (large letters) a conversion chart on dash.
Divide MPH by .625 or divide KPH...ie 100kph X .625= 62.5 MPH. It wont be long before you won't need it.
The very best is get into a Baja zone and let everyone pass you. You will love it!

I think I drive too slow. I take the posted speeds literally. EVeryone passes me.

I doubt your average mordilon would even know what it is, And hey, that hairdryer he's holding out the window isn't really radar.
But what is your math problem? Is your vehicle THAT old, that it does not have kph in small numbers inside the circle of mph on the speedometer?
Granted, the posted kph limits are often absurd and roundly ignored by the locals. But they are there and provide steady income to the community from
the unaware (applicable to both sides of the border).
All I can say is use your best judgement according to your perception of your surroundings and WTF do you need to speed anyway? Slow down and enjoy
Baja.

My frind bought a Radar detector and got more tickets than ever because she thought it would worn here in time. when it buzzed they already had
here. she
through it out the window after about the forth time that happened. and yes it was the best and most expensive one she could get

OK. Don't have a problem supporting the community. I do go slow and do enjoy Baja. Don't being reminded of that. Math conversions and bad
eyesight make posted speed limits confusing. I see a sign, slow down, then no more signs.
I do drive with the flow except for those who speed.
Still, my question is a legal one and realize that laws might be a sore subject here.
Does anyone know if detectors are illegal in Baja? I'm thinking not as those with them (at least from old posts) haven't mentioned it.
I don't want a cop to see one, or be busted at a checkpoint, and have it confiscated.
Seriously. I am not comfortable driving fast in Baja. If most cops use hairdryers, then I'll forget about it.

I really don't know if they are legal or not. I know some people that have them and they haven't had any problems at check points yet.

converting KM to MPH, etc
This is tooooooo easy, regardless of the explanations above.
When you see a km sign, just mentally multiply by 6, don't worry about the decimals.
This is pretty easy, folks!
100 km x 6 = 60 mph
80 x 6 = 48 (mentally round up to 50)
60 x 6 = 36 ( o.k., we are in the 35 mph range)
120 x 6 = 72 (mentally we are at 75)
etc. etc.
As to detectors.... would never go South from here without my Escort happily sitting on the dash, and if it picks up a stray micro-onda, or a security
door, so be it!
Travel fast, but travel safe!!

I've noted whenever I've seen DUAL speed postings that they ALWAYS round up i.e. 60kmh is shown as 40mph.
Concerning Radar Detectors, I have two neighbors who speed constantly and they've said their (expensive) radar detectors have saved them on numerous
occasions, lighting up well before they've even seen the police unit in the distance. YGWYPF, I guess.

In my quest to reduce a sometimes difficult concept to a simple solution I failed to note that some might even need it conveyed in more simple terms

Yes, you do multiply by .6
It is just not conceptually something that the average person (myself included) would be doing as a matter of course.
For the rest of you....
stick with X 6....
it works.
