Fire burn "La Perla" de La Paz

The historic building owned by Ruffo family since mid 19th century has been totally burned down by fire.
The historic frontage seems can still be recovered but for sure the whole store will need total demolition.

Are you referring to the old "Perla Hotel" on the Malecon?

Where we had race headquarters and awards in the NORRA years?

No the Department store, the black smoke was visable here in Comitan 8 miles away. Then again probably visable 50 miles away.

wow, that is really a big bummer. I liked that place, and some history is now, well, just history.

That is really tragic----

----that store was as close to a "Mercantile" as a store is these days. I loved that place.

What a shame.

20 years ago it really was a mercantile, carried hardware, paint, booze, food, clothes, but in the last 10year was modernized more of just a department store.
But still had that old time flavor.

I was just in there last week when I was down checking on some of our properties. A loss for sure.
