Baja 1000 Course Change


BAJA 1000 COURSE CHANGE
Course change south of San Ignacio due to flooding
The course will now pass through the El Datil Fish Camps (same as 2004 race) and bypass the road to Rancho Cuarenta. For details download the revised course notes and go to Line #251/Race Mile 598.47.

That's right David. Several years ago they use to give you an either /or meaning either route. Get stuck in a silt bed on the main road or get stuck in salt water along the beach. I think they should do the same this year. One way to open up a blocked road is to let the prerunners and racers loose on it. That's the fun of racing. To get around thru or over obstacles.

I wonder if it is because that is a new graded road between San Ignacio and San Juanico they want to preserve a bit longer?

TW, being that the Trophy Trucks probably won't get to us until just after sundown.... will you come down to our pit after the bikes pass or will you come down after dark amongst the other racers? We will be at or close to Baja Pits (big orange diamond sign).

4baja... maybe see you in L.A. Bay? We are running pit communications at El Crucero, then on Friday nhead down to your neighborhood and say Hi to the Humfreville's and you guys?

Tom, you are so correct!
I have been hung high and dry in a silt bed just above the beach, rear end housing stuck on a hump and both rear wheels buried in silt, but not touching bottom,
And, I have been throwing mud 50 feet in the air, looking out the side window at mud flats that seemed (almost) at eye level.
What a quandry!!
But, that is what made it fun....
and the guy that said "just a little salt water on the chassy (sic)"
Guess I can't think of an appropriate comment for that.....

All in all, it is slightly easier to dig in silt than to dig in mud, but only slightly.

Hope it's low tide when they pass over the flats!

In the old NORRA days, Parnelli Jones would mark the route across the mud flats with reflective tape on stakes when he pre ran the course... This section would be raced over in the dark. Then during the race, Parnelli ran over his own stakes so as not to let them assist any competition (in case he was broken down for a spell before La Paz).

David I'm not sure how long we'll stay at RM321. If the TTs get off at 10:30 they should be there in 6 hrs more or less which would be 4:30pm. so we would probably stay there while there's light and then move after dark to come down where your at. Probably see you around 6 give or take.

You mentioned access to the rm 321 is at km 271..
Is it before or after the km maker on the hwy if I am coming south on Hwy 1?
What should I allow for time to get into the location, as we might come in early on Thursday am (9am?) to check it out.
I am looking for photo opps between there and El Crucero for the race.

If you are in El Roserio on Wednesday night, we are at Antonio's place for the night..I'll buy you a beer at Mama's.

I am hoping that everyone has coverage for evacuation if any misfortunes happen during the race or get sick......for less then $1 a day it is worth saving your life.....or 1000's of dollars if you dont......I need to know who to talk to about safety for all of the racers.......just let me know.....
I know this sounds like a sales pitch...but it is reality pure and simple....I have what you need.....and I cannot help but want only the safety of everyone.....

LaTijereta, access to RM321 is at hwy KM251. Going south the turn-off is on your left. The KM251 sign is maybe 50-100 feet after the turn-off. It's a good dirt road. The only sandy spot is a wash about half way or more but the sand is not deep and it's only 30+/- feet across. No need for 4x4, actually a car could go back without problems. about 4.5+ miles is a road to the right that also joins the race course according to the maps. I didn't go down it so I don't know it's condition or what the race course may be like down there. Worth a side trip I think. El Crucero is at hwy KM260/261. There is also an access road at hwy KM270 that will take you to the race course about 1.5 miles in. This road is a direct run to the El Desengano mine.

Perhaps Capt. Mike (who is no anti-capitalist and sells giant wall maps of Baja for profit here) is hinting that any financial business here on Nomad be done on the Classified Ads forums?

As for air evac, most already are aware of them and the BiNational Emergency Committee (run by Celia Diaz) service, which I am a member of.

I have the utmost respect with BiNational emergency commitee, however there are great differences in what the plans offer. But of course that is the reason to have a specific site on Classified.
