...I'd wager most Nomads talked themselves out of more situations than they have had occasion to actually use a weapon. I'd offer up as evidence the
interest in dialogue and witty reparte in Baja Nomad postings!

Your origninal post is most correct---I used to teach verbal and non-verbal comminucations to cops all over California and it was very
revealing---They did a bunch of things that were correct but they did a few that caused complaints and no one could understand why until they started
looking at the non-verbals.
Most fun, sad it can not work here.

a NON Verbal Baja Forum Topic, would really be a challenge!!
A good source I find is Sammy Molcho - great how he talks to you - non verbal.
Okay - now seriously - Non verbal communication starts as early as in infancy. And ends when all ends.
It's VERY helpfull anytime, anywhere.
AND NOW ipicture this - a barely 5ft/100lbs Femal COP approaching you in the same manner as Bernie suggests above - now would that still be the
same??

In the frozen north of Idaho... we make it to BC, Canada to perform now and then.
BC border guards have traditionally never had guns - that we've seen or been aware of....
So...... we always make up one liners while waiting at the crossing.... Recently our percussionist came up with:
STOP or I'll......
I'll.........
I'll yell STOP AGAIN !!!!!!
(PS no disrespect intended... I love Canada... just having a little fun, eh? EH ? ?

We just expect that if we're polite, those entering our country will be as well. Lately this is not working as well as it once did. Over the next
couple of years our customs officers will be issued sidearms. I guess it reflects the changing reality of the world.

When I was studying non-verbal communications I spent more time than I cared to in bars and learned that if you really wanted to score than you verbs
must elisit a correct resonse from the opposite (hopefully)sex.
Should that happen then the conservation became a delightfully tactile form of communications that can prove to be extremely rewarding in a very
silent way.

Hope you didn't take offense to my reflections on Drummer Tom's good natured jest about Canadian border officers... We love BCS AND BC (and the
people)!! We go up to ski, hotspring, kayak, etc., (and perform) often. It is just peanut gallery - tongue in cheek observation after 4 hours in a
van full of musician types.
It is also a constant reminder to us....
Crossing into BC - 2 or 5 minutes and a hearty welcome 
Returning to US... (citizens) - :30 to 1:00 and - suspicion!

I was not offended in the least. In fact our border guys being unarmed and friendy to all that entered was the kind of face, I, as a Canadian thought
should be what we show the world. Living next to the US allowed us the luxury of not having to be so concerned about security as the "Big Dog" to the
south was always there, in case. With North America having more of a siege mentality, we're all losing, not just actual freedoms, but the feeling of
freedom, as well. Our border guys getting sidearms is just one more sign of that. So my comment was made in sadness, not anger. I, will say though,
that I cross into the States to go windsurfing at Hoodriver at least once a year with a full truck of windsurfing gear and bikes, and a 23' trailer,
that I have never had less than courteous and mostly friendly reception at the US border. So, I am hopefull that the next time you come to Canada, our
border guys are just as friendly as always, verbaly and non-verbaly.

I agree with everything Windgrrl wrote to start this thread, but it seems to have devolved into a commentary about BC border guards. I had an ugly
experience with the BC border dudes and dudetee about twenty years ago and I have never forgiven them, although the people of BC on that trip were
absolutely wonderful.
