Mexican Auto Insurance
How can I get the best deal on 2 or 3 weeks worth of Mex auto insurance? I am leaving soon. I only need enough coverage to keep me out of jail if
something bad happens. I hear that buying a year's worth is about as cheap as a week or so. Thank you for any help you can give me. Hank

Really it's what you need......
The rule of thumb is...check with your insurence.....do you have full coverage? if so, you only need liabilty Mexican ins. (if your rig is trashed,
they will cover you for your loss,) your ins..... second.....I alway pay the (I think) 8 bucks extra ins. for the lawyer ins......all told I paid $87
usd last year. I hate it when we over pay for insurence!

go to the www. rv.net message board and then the south america and mexico section. you'll find a topic -- segueros tepeyac , (thats an insurance
company) there is a ton of information on this post. play it safe man, sometimes going too thin will cost ya in the long run.

Stay with Lewis & Lewis..
Good coverage for the money,and you should have to pay $78 for liabilty ONLY for their annual policy

Has anyone actually made a claim with full coverage and recieved compensation? I've heard that most times mexican insurance does not pay after an
accident.
Also I've been told that if you have a lien holder (still owe money on the car) then you need written permission to enter Mexico. Does that pose any
problem with your Mexican Insurance?

Lienholders expect for you to have full-coverage...
I offer this further response with a caveat: Lewis & Lewis have changed insurance companies since this happened.
During Semana Santa of 1998 (maybe it was '99...) I had an incident with a telephone pole in Loreto.
Being Semana Santa, not a single adjuster was in the office for the rest of my trip home. I was in communication with the insurance company (and
Lewis & Lewis -- the agents) about this while I was still in Mexico... just making sure I was covering my bases.
Upon returning home to SoCal, I was able to work out with the insurance company having quotes from SoCal body shops on the damage, and forwarding them
to a Tijuana adjuster (for "approval").
The Tijuana adjuster held up the process somewhat, but the insurance company paid the full claim after about 6 months... and it was in excess of
US$3000.
I couldn't have been more pleased (other than the 6 month delay).
