Whale Watching Day Trip

I will be flying into Loreto a few days early for a scheduled group trip, and hope to get to Lopez Mateos or San Carlos to frolic with the whales. I have looked at the whale watching section here at BajaNomads, but still have questions.

Are there businesses that drive individuals from Loreto to the Pacific side, hook them up with a panga trip and bring the folks back safely?

I got a response from Bajaoutpost, but the prices are pretty steep for a few days...close to $500. That is more than half of what I'll pay for my week long all inclusive stay! I understand they are also for sale, but do seem to offer quite a bit good food, decent accomodations, lots of time with the whales, etc...but $500!

I'd be happy to spend the first two days of my trip to Baja doing this, but am coming up empty so far. Any help would be appreciated.

If you know where you will be staying, call them.
They should know about transportation to Lopez Mateo.
It can be done in a day trip easily.
You could also rent a car in Loreto and drive there yourself.
Parts of the drive are beautiful and the road isn't bad in a car in daylight.

I believe that Baja Outpost is where she might be staying.

I would imagine that someone here will have further details on any "guided" trips out of Loreto. Failing any value there, you will likely need to "do it yourself," rent-a-car, etc.
