La Paz Carnival

We will likely be in La Paz during the time of carnival (Feb. 15-20). I am completely unfamilar with the event. Can someone please fill me in on the activities, especially the "must see & dos"? Thank you kindly.

Walk the length just like Comitan says. There are competing live music stages every 500 feet, carnival rides, churros, corn on the cob, sweet gorditas, candied fruit, tamales and other antojitos, souveniers, naming of king and queen, a fireworks stuffed effigy, live dance and concerts. You will need 3 pesos to use the bathroom. Very safe, fun way to spend a few hours. You will want to go twice or more. Go to the tourist police kiosk beforehand to pick up a schedule. Spend lots of money and take plenty of photos.
Although it is the lenten carnival, it is not as drunken as New Orleans nor as risque as Brazil. Do not attempt to drive anywhere near. Walk.

Good question I guess....I had assumed kitjv knew what they were talking about when they stated "Feb. 15-20":?:
I will be there 17th if those are the correct dates:biggrin:

I just heard these dates tossed around. I cannot verify that they are correct. Maybe someone else can. (?)

Al,

According to Villa's links, the carnival is Feb15-20. Coincidentally, the Todos Santos Arts Festival is Feb 15-28. And Judy's Baja Sur Booksigning is on Feb. 18 from 11-5 in Todos Santos.

A lot of fun can be packed into a few days with a little bit of driving, and I hope we get to do all of it!

Al,

Check your link again-- it says Carnival 2006. So I think this year it is Feb 15-20.

Anyway, I think if Don and I leave Loreto around Feb 16 or so and drive south we're bound to have some fun somewhere.

I do believe the book signing is in San Jose.

A few weeks ago I posted dates for various events here, and I got one wrong:spingrin: I had thought we could go to the La Paz carnival (Feb 15-20) and the Todos Santos Art Fair AND the Baja Sur book signing (Feb 18) all in one nice (if tiring) trip.

The Todos Santos festival is Feb 3-10, hope I didn't cause any problems for anyone:saint:.

kitjv. I'm hoping you will have hotel reservations already in effect. I'm told that "rooms" are hard to find during 'carnival'. I'm also told by those who have attended, that it's one of your "Baja Highlights" so a must do for those that like "crowds"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a great time, and get back to us and share your experiences

Does anyone else find a little bit of humor in Villadelfin posting?? "need 3 pesos for bano.... good way to spend 2-3 hours... get the schedule from the kiosk"???? this just struck me as funny... but if you read it differently it probably is information about the "fiesta"...
