Where to stay on eastern side of baja
I've been to Cabo a few times and don't want the scene. We are looking to get a flavor of other parts of Baja. My wife and I and another couple are
looking for a place:
On the beach
Close to shopping/dining, etc.
A smaller town 'old Mexico'
Day trips for a little adventure
Somtime in March or April
We are not into deep sea fishing , but like the kayaking, diving, snorkeling, etc.
Will pay more for a nicer place.
Any suggestions?

This resort is south of Loreto and I've heard great things about it.

Danzante is beautiful, particularly if you really want to get away away. Not cheap but I have never heard anything bad about it. And if 3 fingers
is correct, go now as it may be gone tomorrow. The owners thought that this would not happen but I understand that there is a major development going
in there soon. Be sure to go to the hot springs down the coast!

Having said that, San Jose del Cabo may just meet your needs too.
It has the old town feeling but has plenty to do as well...i e shopping, dining etc.
There are a number of hotels along the beach(remember you cannot swim on these beaches due to a nasty shore break) If you wanted to stay in town, I
understand the Casa Natalia is top shelf.

if you're driving go to Cabo Pulmo, there's website data on it. wish i could land there...........

It's hard to get the Old Mexican Town plus close shopping/dining plus kayaking diving etc.
It's really down to Mulege and Loreto. Cabo Pulmo has no shopping, no electrical grid, and just a few restaurants. Los Barriles has lost most of any
Mexican town character it had.
Since you're willing to spend a few bucks. Go to Loreto. Get a panga to run you and some kayaks out to either Isla Carmen or Isla Danzante and
you'll have a blast. Plus if it's blowing there's enough other things to occupy you for several days. Explore Loreto, San Javier, Bahia de
Conception, Mulege, Santa Rosalia. PLUS you can fly directly into Loreto.

In Loreto, more money spent doesn't always add up to a better stay. Iguana Inn and Coco Cabanas are both delightful. Cabanas de Loreto costs a
little more, and has much to offer. If you must be on the beach rather than near the beach, Oasis would perhaps be your best choice.
Do be sure to chose a hotel that is in Loreto, and not in Nopolo. There is little to do out there (5 miles south of town), and the taxi ride in is a
whopping $17. I have heard that the staff is not helpful with information about activities, or much of anything else.
Danzante resort is a good drive from town, but it is beautiful, and people seem to enjoy their stays there.

If you have 10 days or so, you could fly into Loreto, rent a car, drive the winding, scenic 170 miles to San Ignacio, and stay at Casa Leree for 2
nights. (Get info on this charming hotel by googling it.). Then head south 85 miles to Mulege for a few days, and finally back to Loreto for your
remaining time. Each town is very different from the others, and all 3 are wonderful.
