How to edit?

I tried to edit a posting I had made, by inserting live hyperlinks to other sites mentioned in my report.

No matter how many times I tried it, it ended up deleting my original report entirely, leaving only the hyperlink.

This caused a lot of confusion.

I ended up reloading my original report via a reply to the hyperlink! It looks awfullly amateurish.

It would help if the site had a "Save" function for saving editing changes to already-posted reports.

If you edit a post you have started and not added something to it....it will delete the whole thing

So the trick is to ADD something to you report, to make it longer -- then your edits will "stick" and the report won't be deleted?

HUH??? Nope Debra, not so...

Editing your own post/article can be done to add OR subtract content... OR, to correct spelling or change a bad hyperlink (I do this a lot). I wish Fred's board had this feature!

If you want to remove the whole post than click on DELETE POST then EDIT POST or simular words at the bottom of the edit window and the post will be gone. IF your post is the first one and people have replied to it, then all the replies will be gone, as well (when you delete the top post of a thread).

IF you see a post that should be removed because it violates the rules here or seems vulgar or hateful then click on the REPORT button in that post, and the moderators will be notified.

My troubles began when I tried to add live hyperlinks. I highlighted the words, hit the hyperlink logo above (fourth box to the right), entered the URL where asked, saw nothing happen, hit Preview Post, and hey presto! the entire report evaporated and only the URL and codes were left in its place. I did this about four times and gave up, choosing to reload the entire report as a "reply."

Hi Ferdic, I don't know about any hyprlink logo... But, to add a hyperlink is the same as adding a word or making a change. On the post, click the edit button, type in the change, click on the edit post button below. To make a URL (web address) 'hyper' here, just add http:// before the address. Leave a space on each side of the URL, ie. no period at the end, without a space. For example: http://www.bajanomad.com. won't work because of the last period. However, http://www.bajanomad.com works fine. Often the www is not needed, but sometimes is. Good luck!

Thanks, David! It worked like a charm.

That weblink logo in the Post Reply page (fourth from left, under the type font box) is what I use on my own site to create live links. On Baja Nomad, it seems to work like a weapon of mass destruction!

When you hit the hyperlink button, it'll create the hyperlink from the URL you put in the box.... or, as pointed out, just enter a proper URL and the system will just do it automatically.

By highlighting the text you wanted to make into a link, you actually deleted it all when the system put in the link for you.

It's not like FrontPage, where you highlight the text you want to make into a link... here, the system is just asking you where you want to link to and adds the "BB Code" around it to make it function as such.
