Gonzaga Bay Winds
1. Which way does the wind blow most frequently (late winter/early spring harder winds)?
2. What parts, if any, of the beach get the most/least wind?
Thank you, Tim

Tim,
The winds were from the west (March of 2006) or offshore. Mind you when we were there it was windiest in the late afternoon througn early morning.
Most of the day was light winds and beautiful. If you arn't going out in a boat, I don't think its a big deal. Certainly wouldn't prevent me from
going in March again. October has been much less windy for me in the past, if that is an option.
Protection in the vacinity of Alphonsina's is minimal. It might be a little less exposed futher south towards Punta Final, just a guess.
Go for it. Pacificos taste just as good in the wind!

Tim... I have spent a week there in mid-February, and guess we really lucked out. The weather was perfect! As Ken said, the breeze picked up late
afternoon through early morning... but nothing to stress over. I was, however, staying at Alfonsina's - not tent camping.
Also have been there in October, which was very good weather indeed - but the colors of the environment were not so beautiful as in February, IMHO.
Bahia S.L. Gonzaga may be my favorite spot in all this world. I feel certain you will enjoy it whenever you go. And a favor, please.... take photos
and post 'em here?!

Thank you for the information. We have been several times, but these questions were more trying to understand the prevailing strong wind direction
and if there are locations on the bay that, associated with location, receives less of the 'blast'.

In the winter time the wind in the SOC is from the N, NW. It can be quite windy 4+ days a week up until May.
I tend to disagree with the above posts. I think they are understating the conditions.

Seems to be consensus that the winds are westerly to NWesterly.

Tim, I have a house in Punta Final and know the winds well. All of the people here are correct. The winds are very fickle this time of year in
Gonzaga. There may not be any good spots to hide in. It may blow for days, and can be beautiful for days, regardless, the beauty of Gonzaga Bay makes
it all worth while. Be prepared for it and enjoy. I'll be flying down in two weeks, might post a trip report.

THank you for all of the information.
Pete, how are the landing conditions in these types of winds?

Oh, Pete, one more question. I have heard it both ways and as you are an owner, I would like confirmation from the source; are the homes on leased
land or held in bank trust (doubt mx corp)? Tim

Tim, In almost 20 years we have always been able to land. Typically the wind is coming from the Ocean, coming from the North, and only a very few
times have we used the cross runway. Can't remember the last time. On the land issue, for the last 16 years or so we have leased our lots from a
Mexican Corp. run by a couple of great old American guys, they're were several partners, but is has now changed hands. A Korean/South American is in
control of the camp, and is buying it. We now pay our rent to him. They're are several houses for sale in the camp, but no land, leases only.

Of the entire bay I enjoy PF the best. I have witnessed amazing success from shore fishing the point.
