Full Coverage for Towing a 20 Year Old Boat
I'm having a hard time finding a mexican insurer who offers full coverage on a 1987 boat & trailer. Discover Baja and others say they will not
insure a boat or trailer 20 years old or older. My Cabo 216 is refurbished, has 2005 F150 4S OB and just spent $2000 rebuilding trailer. Anyone know
of an insurer who will give me coverage. Going to BOLA March 14th for a couple of weeks of fishing and camping

Try AAA you don't need to be a member. I had the same problem and they helped me.

you might try Sawyer Cook, Cox or Progressive. I plan on calling them this week, too. I have a 20 year old Skipjack.
Do you get in-the-water coverage when you are in Mexico?

Boat Insurance
The important thing when obtaining hull insurance coverage on a boat is to deal with a company that offers "Agreed Upon" Value. Otherwise, the
supposed upper limit on the coverage is meaningless. They will determine actual assessed value at the time of claim. There are numerous companies
which offer the "Agreed" coverage, including Boat U.S. and they offer coverage for boats in foreign waters, but I don't know the details.

Boat US will no longer insure south of the 20 mile band from the border. They only company that I found that will insure in Mexico is Progressive but
they require you to have a Mexican Liability policy to cover while towing. That should be available through Lewis and Lewis

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm finally done finding all the insurances i need to tow my boat to BOLA AND operate it in the water; i.e. boat
not attached to trailer.
I did not try everyone on my list before i called my boat's USA insurer, BoatUS. After talking to a BoatUS underwriter and giving him a mini-bio of
myself they agreed to offer me full coverage on my boat & trailer including on the water for $50 for ten days. You have to get towing liability
insurance from a Mexican insurer which I got through Discover Baja on my truck (full) and boat/trailer (liability only).
Also you need "on the water liability insurance" for the boat in a policy seperate from the towing insurance. One year is $175, seven days is $47. I
took the 7 day. Therefore the total insurance costs for my trip to BOLA is
1. $181 for towing - truck (full), boat/trailer (liability only)
2. $50- BoatUS full coverage on boat & trailer (no liability)
3. $47- on the water liability for boat
I'm sure this confuses you like it does me but unless someone else comes up with another insurance i need I'm done and ready to fish!
