Mood: Want to fish!!!

La Salina

Anybody have a current fish report out of the La Salina area? Mainly the kelp beds near Cantamar to Baja Mar. I will be at my house in La Mision this weekend. The weather is going to be great for a change. I am trying to figure out whether to dust off the trusty Ensenada Boat Works Whaler clone "Mi Sancha" and finally have some fresh fillets.

Mi Sancha is a 16ft flat bottomed skiff w/ a 40hp Suzuki. If the swells are not to big, I have never had a problem. Has it gotten a lot worse there in the last 2 months?

Was your boat built by Ensenada Boat Works at their place on the highway to Tecate? Is it realy a Whaler knockoff or a panga style boat? I'm looking for a boat that I can launch off the beach.

Copy of a 13ft Whaler flat bottom skiff, extended to 16ft. It was definitly built at E.B.W.,just outside town, Hwy 3. I am looking for a 17ft panga to replace it. Pacific side beach launch would only be advised w/zero surf only!! Virtually no V at all. I have launched from the sand in the marina at La Salina before the ramp was built. I have seen quite a few places on the Sea of Cortez where this boat would be no problem, until the wind kicks up. It has a 40hp Suzuki tiller on it ,a little tail heavy. Hauls butt on flat water though!!!

I got three nice lings last Saturday. Have you heard anything about this week? Fished last Saturday and marked a lot of fish at the towers. The lings were the only takers, other than a short calico and a couple jonny bass.

Whoa Derek-- that`s some fine fishing!! And in that thick fog too!!
I was out there (Towers) and could hear voices. Went to make a move and out of the fog the "Voyager" appeared! You could only see maybe 200' and they were just out of my sight!
Moved to 250' and whomped some dumb Salmon Grouper which I gave away at the dock. Cound`n`t get the reds to go (damn). Sounds like you had a fantastic day!
Fished 55 on Monday for a slow pick on reds. Did get a nice Sheep!!
