Any Experience w/Auto Transport?
I tried a search on this topic, but no dice. I figure someone here has had some experience with this and can assist.
I may have found a Custom Street Legal Dune Buggy in Oregon that I want. The challenge is getting it down here as inexpensive and painless as
possible.
Here's what I envision happening as of now to make this happen;
1. Hire a commercial car-hauler/transport service to ship it from Oregon to San Diego. I fly one-way from Cabo to San Diego to meet the delivery.
2. With my pink slip/receipt, I guess I can then get Mexi-liability insurance and have that part covered.
3. Make the two/three day drive from SD back to Cabo.
I'm on a tourist visa, and am registered for everything in Ohio. I have an Ohio DL, so how would I register this thing for plates? I did bring a spare
plate with current tags with me when I flew back from Ohio last time.  But
what's the process if I wanted to do this legitimately? I also may start a Mexican Corporation soon, so I'll have an FM3 and then can I get licensed
& the vehicle registered down here? But in case that does not happen, what's the proper process? Is it as simple as visiting the Kinko’s motor
vehicle registration services department? 
Important questions are; does anyone have experience with a car-hauling service? I prefer not to drive, or have it driven from Oregon to SD, seeing
it's basically a dune buggy. I'm hoping I can get that service done for around $400. Will someone from down here be in Oregon around that time and
mind flat-bedding, towing, or trailering it back down to me? Or take that private plane and load it up? J/K
I could then hire a transport for the SD to Cabo leg, but that's got to be another $750+ at least I figure. Maybe I’m wrong and someone has some
connections with a company who makes regular car hauler trips down here for dealers and may have some extra space available for cheap?
I've yet to experience the drive down the Baja, so maybe this will be a great way to experience that and play with my new toy. There may also be a
friend driving from San Diego around the same time, so I can have some back up in case this thing is a big piece of poo.
That’s the skinny so is there an easier way to do this and at the same time spend less money getting it down here?

go to an importer!!!

convertibles are considered "luxury cars"
these are more expensive to import...even a dunebuggy
there are ALOT of rules when importing a car to mexico
why import anyway???...
your fm3 will cover it when you leave it in baja
oregon license and insuranse is CHEAP!!!
that thing would easily tow behing a pickup...
i towed a little car for Keri awhile back and didn't even feel it.
here is a GREAT importer for EVERYTHING

I took a brief look at your website, and it looks like you own a little piece of heaven there.
I doubt I'll go the import route, it's just way too expensive and unnecessary. The only concern I have is it enough to just cross the border with a
bill of sale with a street legal buggy? If it's being made in Oregon, maybe the builder has to get a title for it, and then sign it over to me. Then
when I get possession somewhere in SD, I'll just try to pass customs and hope a bill of sale and signed/released title in my name is enough. I just
can't figure out how I would get temp tags from Oregon, if I won't be there for pick-up, and is it even necessary? Or is that something I would do in
Cali, even though I'm a resident of Ohio officially?
I'm allowed to bring a car in with a tourist visa, and would likely just sell it in Baja, if I ever left for good.

Thanks, I found that this morning and signed up and posted my requirement. It looks like we may be ordering three at a time and the builder will be
shipping them down to the border for us, and we'll just take the scenic cruise in them down the baja on our own.
Still no bids yet. Need to find those freight haulers leaving from SD, unloading goods in the NE and returning with an empty truck to make a few exra
bucks hauling my buggies back. Bust out the CB time!

Check with Ohio DMV regarding the licensing/titling of a vehicle if you buy it out of state.....they probably have some procedures for
students/servicemembers......worth a try

That's a good idea and one of my next steps. Hopefully they can do all that online. Last few times I went in there, there damn 'puters didn't even
work. long shot at best.
Could possibly send the paperwork to my sis and have her register, but they may need to visually inspect since they've been adapted to be street
legal.
Almost willing to take what I have and take my chances at the border. May be a fee involved, but that's just business.
