Green-Striped Parking No Longer Exclusive In La Paz?
Last night some friends of mine who live across the street from Las Tres Virgenes, came home to find the parking space in front of their home occupied
by some old clunker of a van with California plates. My friends recenty paid the city of La Paz $180. dollars for a green stripe and a no-parking
sign for the space in front of their house. They pulled up close to the van and, as they were pondering what to do, some truculent gringos exited the
restaurant and threatened to trash their car if they didn't move it -- like now! When my friends tried to tell them they were illegally parked in a
reserved space, the occupants of the van rudely and loudly claimed that there is no more reserved parking in La Paz, and that they could park wherever
they wanted.
Is this true? Are reserved parking places designated by green stripes and posted with signs no longer honored by the city of La Paz?
Irregardless of the legalities, I'm very disappointed that my dear friends (he's 92 and she's in her 70's -- they genuinely need a parking place close
to their front door) were humiliated and bullied by the beer-bellied thugs who usurped their parking space and then threatened to trash their vehicle.
My wife and I had thought we'd gotten away from this kind of low-class behavior when we left the Big City and moved to the City of Peace. How sad
that apparently we were wrong.

I believe this rumor was started by the Gringo Gazette, which first announced that the green curb was no longer valid in Cabo San Lucas, then followed
in the next edition saying that they were wrong, not valid in La Paz. I see no sign that they are correct this time either!

The city really needs to put up signage explaining the green-line reservations, since this isn't obvious to tourists. Meanwhile, those friends of
yours [also mine] are about the last people in La Paz who deserve to be hassled by rude loud-mouths of any nationality.

It is now nailed down as an indisputable fact that the green-striped parking spaces in La Paz are exclusive to the people who paid for them. A friend
who lives on Revolucion recently called the police when someone usurped her space and the police called the Gruas to tow the usuper's car, like
immediately-as-in-right-now.
The Gringo Gazette was wrong yet again, and why am I not surprised? I think it's likely that the only people who believe everything they read in the
Gringo Gazette are the same ****** who take seriously the ********* **** ***** ******** ** *** "****."

Its a big problem in this city, and i am also struggling daily with idiots that park in our space as well. Its a big problem for us because we do our
restaurant shopping in the mornings, and theres nothing more rude than coming back full of groceries and stuff, and finding some guy parked in a
clearly marked exlusive parking zone. Back in Tijuana nobody would consider doing that because your car would almost surely get keyed at the very
least, but here, people just don't care. There is nothing you can do to stop these people from parking at your space, i guess they know that the city
has little enforcement so who cares, but one thing i do that at least gets me some satisfaction, is using white shoe shine paint to write "I know your
an ignorant person, but try to respect other peoples property". You should see their faces when they have to wipe the paint off while everybody looks.
By the way, if my neighboors ever have a problem with one of my customers parking at their space, just let me know, i would gladly make them move
their car.
