Actually, the check which should be done on every person entering the U.S., given the current state of affairs, would ruin our lives.
What do they look for? Arabs?
Mexicans with Spanish blood have Arab blood and they look similiar. A tough call for customs officials.
Being Irish myself, and looking like it, I dont know what the profiling would be. Probably an alcohol profile. Maybe BG can add something to this.

Ah sure now and didja never hear that the IRA was listed as a terrorist organization? Twas in all the papers, Boyo!

I'm into this late. I paid no attention to this thread at first as I rarely if ever cross at SY. But, after 2hrs,10min. at San Luis yesterday and seeing how long this thread was getting, I checked it out from the beginning. I'm sure this is much more info than the original poster ever wanted to know but that's the way these things go. I have to agree with Roberto, it's the infrastructure that's the problem. It's just not designed for today's volume of border traffic. Not for TJ, the world's highest volume border crossing and not for my little podunk ferdamshur. I would kill for a Sentri pass if it would do me any good. I would consider it cheap at twice the cost. But it will be many years before there is a physical possibility of such. We have 6 booths at San Luis with maybe 50' to split the TWO lanes on the Mexican side leading up to it. These two lanes parallel the fence from 1st St. East back towards Sonoita and Mex 2. I look at the border every day, I live 2 miles from it. Yesterday when I spent a day in El Golfo de Sta. Clara, Son. was the first time this year I've crossed. It's just too damn much hassle getting back to go for a daytrip. As we inched along at about 12 min. per block, my bud Jose bailed out, went around the block to pee, buy a sack of tortas, and catch up, a block ahead of me. When we finally, hallelujah, reached the line, the processing with the Customs Agent was not a wave-through, but neither abusive nor unreasonable. I'd say about 4 to 5 minutes. The other day I heard a most unusual thing, a California politician saying something that actually made sense! I only caught a piece of it and didn't catch the name but I think it was a guy from Imperial County. It was on the occasion of Bush's visit and the jist of what he was saying was that it was one thing to be building fences etc. to keep illegals out, but what we who live here need for our local economy is a better way to allow LEGALS to cross the border in a reasonable manner for work and shopping.

All my childhood I wanted to be older. Now I\'m older and this chitn sucks.
