Baja 500 just got more Interesting
This is what I've beening wanting to see for some time. Three factory teams racing SCORE. Honda, KTM and now Mike Childress on a Suzuki. I think we'll
have a real dog fight here. Thanks to Tony Tellier sending this.

FreestyleMX.com Signs OffRoad Superstar Mike Childress
New FreestyleMX.com OffRoad Race Team to Ride SCORE Baja 500
CHULA VISTA, Calif., April 19, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- FreestyleMX.com, Inc., operator of the world's largest freestyle motocross website (www.freestylemx.com) and largest international organizer and promoter of freestyle motocross events, today announced it has signed Mike Childress
to ride the SCORE Baja 500 for 2007 as part of the newly formed FreestyleMX.com OffRoad Race Team.
Mike Childress is widely recognized and respected as a two-time Baja 1000 winner, as well as the District 37 AMA Open Champion in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Childress joins FreestyleMX.com Race Team captain, Marc Burnett -- a former SCORE class Champion -- and Shawn Highland, a seasoned Pro Motocross,
Supercross and Freestyle Motorcross rider.
"I'm really excited about joining the FreestyleMX.com team and I look forward to putting the Boost Mobile RockStar Suzuki RMZ450 out in front ... and
up on the podium for the Baja 500! This is an incredible opportunity and I'm truly stoked to be part of the FreestyleMX.com Team," states Childress.
The newly-formed FreestyleMX.com OffRoad Race Team will debut as one of more than 400 entries competing in the upcoming 39th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja
500, held June 1-3 in Ensenada, Mexico.
"We couldn't be happier to have Mike on board for the Baja 500," notes Team Caption Marc Burnett. "He is one of the best off road riders out there. I
believe adding Mike to our team ... along with both pit support and air support ... truly gives us a real shot at the overall win."
For air support, savvy event producer Marc Burnett will have the sleek RockStar Energy Drink Helicopter overhead to spot and support the
FreestyleMX.com team all throughout the grueling course -- a first for any private offroad team in any event in SCORE Desert Racing.
Companies supporting the FreestyleMX.com team for this year's Baja 500 are Boost Mobile, RockStar Energy Drink, Suzuki, Hollywood Suzuki, IMS, FMF
Racing, GPR Stabilizers, Race Tech, SRH, UNI, PJ1, Dragon, OGIO, Etnies, RK Chains, Pacific Collision Center, Dunlop Tires and Excel Rims.

Chris Blais was here in San Felipe last week with his co-rider for the Baja 500, Cyril Despres. This is possibly the strongest pairing in the pro
motorcycle class.
This will be Cyril's first SCORE race, however he is this years Dakar rally motorcycle champion.
Martin forgot to ask what they are riding but one would assume it will be a KTM.

Sorry David
I haven't heard anything about a reconciliation.
Ejido Plan Nal Agrario will not deal with a third party in Off-Road races any more. It will only deal directly with the race promoter.
SCORE refuses to deal with any Ejidos and expect the hosting cities to give them a complete package.
Given the two completly different positions I don't expect to see SCORE back in San Felipe for a long time.

Thanks for the report Bob... too bad for San Felipe merchants!
The 1000 can get to La Paz or Cabo without passing the area, as it has many times... so no threat to the 1000 and the 500 hasn't been near San Felipe
in awhile, anyway... So, the big loss is the 250 race, which already has a new name.
I am sure they will work out the race passing Coco's Corner to give him the business... either by opening up the La Turquesa Grade to Hwy. 5 just
north of Coco's or running up to Coco's from Chapala after a run along the Pacific or along Mex. 1, then head back south via Calamajue Canyon!

Volkswagen in the race
" For the first time in race history, Volkswagen of America officially entered two of its Dakar Rally factory teams. Driven by American Mark Miller
and South African Giniel De Vilers, the two turbo-diesel VW Taureg midsize Sport Utility Vehicles will compete in a special SCORE Int’l Truck class"

Thanks Lou.
I was wondering what that class was. They are listed right after the TT's on the drawing results.
