A nice, safe beach motel between Ensenada and San Quintin?
Hi
despite having lived in Tijuana/ Rosarito for four years I never ventured further south than Ensenada. I am now planning to go down to San Quintin,
total trip time being 5-7 days.
Can anyone recommend a nice, quiet, and safe motel ($40 max) near the beach between Ensenada and San Quintin (I will be in a 2WD car). On a map I can
see Erendira, that looks interesting.
Regarding San Quintin, I have heard good things on this board about Motel Sanchez, but is there a similar motel nearer the coast in this area?

Hi Mike,
Just north of Erendira at Punta San Isidro is Castro's Sport fishing with motel cabins, then a just bit more north is Coyote Cal's Hostel see http://www.coyotecals.com
Between Colonet and San Quintin you will see signs pointing west advertising motel rooms for surfers... Cuatro Casas comes to mind.
On San Quintin Bay is the Old Mill Motel, very popular...
Just south of San Quintin is the Cielito Lindo Motel and the more expensive La Pinta (renamed Desert Inn), but that is over your budget.

Mike,
The Old Mill in San Quintin on the bay should fit your needs. Price range is around $40, quite, safe parking, accessible with car (a bit washboard)
just take it slow. Two restaurants within walking distance. Try the stone crabs at the old mill restaurant.

It's an easy 4-4 1/2 hr drive to San Quintin from the border. You won't need to split up the drive. I second the Old Mill hotel recommendation, 400
pesos. I wouldn't, however, eat at the Old Mill Restaurant even if I was starving. Drinks on the patio are nice, though.
There is a good restaurant "El Jardines" about a mile away.

We like the Old Mill, but it is on a bay; there is no beach. Cielito Linda is within walking distance of a great beach. It may be a little run down,
though. The La Pinta is closer to the beach but more expensive. I haven't stayed there.
Jardin's restaurant is closed. Don Eddies next to the Old Mill is good.
I haven't been to the Erendira area, still, I would try David K's recomendations if I were looking for a waterfront place between Ensenada and San
Quintin.

Dave,
We were told they are turning Jardines into a B & B. It was shutdown in March when we popped in to eat, and was being remodeled at that time.
Did we just hit The Old Mill Restaurant on a good day?

The La Pinta (as David K pointed out) now the Desert Inn is right on a beautiful beach. It is a bit pricier but if you show them your FM-3 you can
sign up for their Discount Card that will save enough to make the cost more reasonable.

there is a hostel (empty this time of year-good for you) at cuatro casas. turn right at the green overhead sign announcing the turn to the
observetory/mikes sky ranch, etc. follow about 5 miles to the coast and turn left. another mile or so and you are there. $15-20/person/nite and you
have flush toilets, kitchen (bring your own grub), clean beds, etc....

Looks like it is the Old Mill then. However, as Don Alley says, it is on a bay, when I would prefer a beach. Maybe a night or two there, and another
couple in a hostel.

Mikintj, you can drive to the beach by the La Pinta; it is fabulous. The Old Mill restaurant has been very good every time we've eaten there; even
during the World Cup and all the help was glued to the TV. And the Old Mill hotel is great!

good food clean banos
great location for day trips to san quintin and to San Pedro Matir.
in Camalu turn west at the Pemex short drive out to hotel.
about 40$ per night and reasonble panga rentals.

I second the Camalu Pirates inn. It is newer than the rest, and has it's own fishing boats. If you want mexican stone crab you can go down to the
beach when the pangas come in and get all the fresh ones you want. You need to take it slow on the road out there though. It is short, but rough.
Turn right just before the pemex.
The first house you see on the left, just as you come over the rise to where you can see the ocean, is my friend Lee. He is a commercial crab
fisherman, and does sportfishing also. He speaks english, so he can let you know everything about the area. Also, a super nice guy.

Exactly David! BajaMurry, the fishin electrician, is the one who introduced me to Lee. Lee is also the one we fished with during M's BBBB#? That I
had so many fish we gave some to the other Amigo's.

A great placed we ate lunch at was Richards just south of the ship wreck, he runs a B&B right on the water and the ship wreck has a nice beach.
Maybe someone could chime in with a way to get in touch with him.
He served us great tostadas in his patio from his patio kitchen, it was the best.

We love the Old Mill. San Quintin is not the same for us when it is full and we can't stay there. I like the restaurant there too and they are very
friendly to our kids.
