Non-Sentri Passengers
I just found out we'll be picking up my baja-phobic bro-in-law on our way back from Estero. He'll be in Rosarito and doesn't want to go back all by
himself in a cab/bus (poor baby!).
Anyway, I still want to take advantage of our excellent instructions from fdt to use our almost brand new Sentri passes! Is it pretty easy to dump
him off just before getting into the teeth of the Sentri Lane? Will the baja-phobic bro-in-law be able to find his way and walk across easily without
much trouble?

Don't know about TJ, but if you go via Otay, it's easy to drop him off along the street leading to the crossing, say, about 100 yards before the
border agent station. Shouldn't be any hassle. . Then it's an easy walk to al otro lado.

The pedestrian line at San Ysdiro is easy to find -- it's to the right of the SENTRI lanes and the bus lane, and you can do the drop off at the last
stop sign on the SENTRI approach about 50 yards before the crossing. Note, however, that the pedestrian line there can be extremely long at times.
You can call the border crossing time info line ((619) 690-8999) before you get there, or just pass it up and do Otay.

wait wait wait.....you mean each passenger in a Sentri vehicle has to be registered with Sentri before using the lane? Is that how I'm reading this? I
always thought it was the vehicle that got the pass...

Yeah --- Sentri is for specific vehicles and specific passengers.

Go across without a pass for a passenger and watch how fast your car no longer is authorized to cross. They will pluck the transponder right off your
window.
OTAY is still preferred. SY can be too much of a wait and the parking (doesn't exist) on the other side of the border in SY can really foul up a good
day as the US cops love to give tickets.

That would make the Sentri pass useless if you had guest along from time to time, or like us, one of our kids friends along for the weekend. Oh well,
at our crossing we don't have Sentri at the East border in Mexicali, instead we have a shorter line making it bearable. At least for now.
Haven't had a bad trip yet....

I would trade a shorter wait time, as it used to be, for a Sentri pass any time.

When you get trapped in a 2-hour wait (or longer) some day, you'll echo what my wife and I said to each other the last time we went non-SENTRI: "I'd
give a hundred bucks to be out of this mess." The pass is $129/person for five years, best bargain you'll ever get from Uncle Sam.

It looks like I've now got 3 alternatives...
1) Drop him off 50 yards from the San Y Sentri (Thanks DanO!)
2) Go for Otay (Thanks for the tips bajamigo & Gull)
3) Roll him out on the Toll Road (might be the best option Dennis!)
I'll let you know how it goes.

Yes, Otay is the way if you don't toss him on the toll road first. You'll see the buses pulling in there to drop off pedestrian traffic. Then you
can just turn around like the buses do and head back.

Gotta LOVE that Sentri pass! 2:37 arrive San Ysidro.....2:45 pass.........southbound was awful, though, as we came back from Rosarito. Anyone know
what was going on?

SENTI PASS IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO. BY THE WAY, YOU CAN NOW GET THEM ON LINE. ONLY TAKES ABOUT 30 DAYS. USED TO BE A 6 TO 8 MONTH WAIT.
