Twentieth Century Fox sells Baja
Twentieth Century Fox sells Baja
Studio was 'Titanic' production base
By BASHIRAH MUTTALIBTwentieth Century Fox has sold Baja Studios to Baja Acquisitions, for an eight-figure price tag.
The studio, located in Rosarito, Mexico, was initially constructed in 1996 to accommodate the filming of "Titanic." (Variety January 17, 1998)
Simon Bax, CFO, Fox Filmed Entertainment at that time, was closely involved in what was an unproductive global search for "Titanic's" production base
and subsequently Mexico became a location option.
Baja Studios spans over 37 acres and boasts two outdoor water tanks (17M and 500K gallon capacities) as well as two indoor (4.3M and 400K gallon
capacities). The facility has three stages (32.5K, 16.9K and 16.9K sq. ft.).
Support space includes production offices, dressing rooms, construction workshops, wardrobe/art department workspace and a commissary.
Feature pics such as "Master and Commander," "Pearl Harbor," "In Dreams" and "Tomorrow Never Dies" lensed at the facility.
"We had a great run of productions and memories at the facility in Baja, beginning with 'Titanic'," said a Fox spokesman. "Taking into account our
production needs and given the availability of our two other extensive production facilities in Los Angeles and in Sydney, Australia, we decided to
accept this lucrative offer from local financial interests and divest our stake in the studio."

The 2000 road from Fox to Otay was built for a reason.
My guess is that we'll see why soon enough.
The only requirement for love or chorizo is confidence.

Like Trump Towers Baja?
Nope, it was made for all the trucks to give them a better way to Tecate than Hwy. 3 from Ensenada... me thinks... also to reduce cars through
Tijuana's nightmare traffic

David, I think you are right on moving the traffic out away from T.J. and a better route to Tecate for trucks moving their loads. However, I did
notice a lot of ground being prepared for what looked like housing. Maybe, this is the T.J. flight of housing for those that can afford to get out
along with the American dollar to buy also. I do like this road and used it to get back to Mexicali to crossover to El Centro after the book signing
event. Later--------bajafun777

It was in the original agreement between Fox Studios and Rosarito beach that Fox would upgrade the road between town and the studio, which they did,
and build an airstrip in the vicinity, which they didn't do. I wonder how much it cost to weasle out of that?

the road was the death knell for filmmaking........ It simply cannot exist with the vibration from traffic...... There is no way to isolate the audio
unless everything is dubbed in post ., CaboRon
