Shore fishing Gonzaga-Puertocitos
I will be traveling through the Gonzaga to Puertocitos area in mid June. I am looking for any information about shore based fishing.
What lures to bring? What type of likely fish etc.
Personal experiences prefered.
I have read the Baja Catch just looking for the most recent info.
Are there pangas for rent in Gonzaga?
If so who is the best captain?
Thanks in advance.

Bob,
Bring crocadile spoons, rapalas, and plenty of soft plastic fish baits on jig heads. If you fish from shore head south of Puertecitos and you can
pretty much fish off of the rocks and get trigger fish, corvina, snapper, and spotted bass. There are very few pangas for rent. We have a charter
company in the area and we charter our 22ft boat for 3 people out at 400 per day from Puertecitos, 450 if you want pick up in gonzaga. from the boat
we can get yellowtail, sierra, grouper, white sea bass, and snapper. You can also bring down frozen squid and get alot of fish that way also from the
shore. If you head south of puertecitos and past the black mountain you will get to Huerfanito and you can do some shore fishing there just north of
town.
We have been getting lots of fish on the bomber long A lures trolling at the islands.

I'll second most of what gone to baja says. Shore fishing can get expensive, the best areas are rocky and major tackle grabbers. If you fish at high
tide, you can retrieve lost tackle at low tide. Triggers will clean you out of plastics. Try using a bit of bass fillet(skin on) on a small hook for
those.

P.S. ...... Think of the Baja Catch as a VERY general guide to the area. It's a bit optimistic in outlook. You'll mostly catch spotted bay bass up to
12 inches and triggerfish up to about 2 lbs. Everything else is subject to seasons , location, technique and LUCK. Have FUN
