Holy smokes! I sure am glad we're not coming north across the border today!

The border with Baja just continues to become a bigger and bigger mess. It's beginning to make no sense to just pop down for a weekend........or even a week.

See?

Mexicans can control the border. Why can't we?

Guess who head down to

visit a couple of my Mexicans friends where were very ill. The last time I went down to see a couple of friends I arrived the day after one of their wakes and on the day the same event for the other one.

This time I listened to my inner voice and I am very glad that I did.

Visited with Dave (no! he was not sick nor is he a Mexican--he is a friend--I think) on the way down and had a nice talk.

Pulled into La Salina to a bunch of smiles and a few hugs from several of my healthy Mexican friends.......Chicho reminded the others that he had laid the tile in my home over 30 years ago....I reminded him he was just a kid back then and we all had a good laugh.

Talked to Gus, the bartender, and found that one of the friends I had intended to visit was not around because he was having a battery of tests to see just what was causing his problems. I believe I know but will wait until they call me later this week.

Visited some other folks and nothing has changed......same rumors of gloom and doom that were going around 5 and 10 years ago.......Many, many for sale signs so someone is listening to the rumors.

My other friend of 40+ years has apparently had a stroke or two and sort of drifted in and out of the conversation.

Spent some time in camp and then headed back north about 2:30 and heard of the demonstrations and thought oh! po---po. Everyone had been diverted to Otay Mesa but I was already committed to San Ysidro before the news hit me.

Decided to chance it and sailed across the border in record time for the normal lanes (my sentri pass is in limbo because it has not been transferred to my new vehicle). Again, thanks to those of you who helped me with that problem a while back.

They had just re-opeaned the border and apparently most of the folks opted to go the Otay Mesa. As a result they were quoting 45+ minutes to cross there.......Am I lucky or what.

Funny! When it comes to this border one just never knows!

My smidgen of a claim to fame is that I have had so many really good friends. By Bernie Swaim December 2007

Sounds more like Mexicans were out of control of the border. What a mess. Hope there's nothing like that when I drive down next. Hot July - probably not.

Protesting retirement at 60 instead of 50 ... our retirement age for full social secuirty has just been raised to 66 for me and 68 for my husband by our government. : ( I wonder if Mexicans know about that? :?: )

:light: Why don't we "Boomers" march in protest? But not at the border for heaven's sake.

Baja protesters block border entry for hours

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/mexico/tijuana/20070606-1...

June 6, 2007

Northbound traffic at the San Ysidro port of entry was blocked for close to three hours Wednesday...

...Southbound traffic into Mexico was also blocked for close to two hours...

...One frustrated motorcyclist unsuccessfully tried to persuade U.S. officials to allow him to cross into the United States through the pedestrian lanes...
