Month 3 progress, Doc's Pub/Baja
June is month 3 of my house construction on Punta Banda, just south of Ensenada. I am on site 9 days out of 10 to supervise and learn spanish from my
workers. 12 houses in construction in nbhd and mine is only steel frame.
1. Why isn't steel frame more popular?
2. Mine is passive solar, diagonal wall above roof faces south and contains 5 windows. Why so few solar designs in Baja?
3. Mexican senoritas enjoy beer. I have 8 months of keen observation and closeup study on this topic. Why such a big difference in women
enjoying beer here v. USA?

1. I have no idea. I'm sure someone familiar with Baja building can say.
2. I have a passive solar heated house in Stinson Beach CA. I never thought of doing it in Baja, because heating a house in Baja is not as big a
deal as cooling it.
3. Because it's hotter in Baja than most places most of the time in the USA. I never drink more than an occasional coronita in northern California,
but beer is more appealing in hotter climes, and so I drink it there.

Thanks Elizabeth,
Lived in small concrete block basement this winter with many nights at 37-45F. Close to the ocean in a damp basement at those temps motivates heating
and insulation design.

As you have more experience, I'll attempt to learn from someone with more "blimp" hours than me.

Hi BajaDock...this is not in your area, but may be of interest to you why some people may not use steel. It is way south in east cape.

Notice steel frame house still standing
Al G why not post the details about the picture of a steel frame house that survived a HURRICANE!
Might have been the "mexican" worker that caused the failure and not the steel structure itself.

Al G, Your picture, while unfortunate, does show a solidly framed house. Ignoring any interior damage, looks like only a couple of weeks work to put
the "skin" back on.

WOW..I guess you build steel, maybe?
Your are right hurricane Bill passed by at Class 2 or 3.
Don't know if any others houses that blew apart...I do remember it was a Norte Americano builder. He may have, or not blamed it on his workers?
Maybe it has something to do with flexability...I don't build steel houses...maybe you can enlighten me.

Sorta wish I had not got into this, but you did ask and I thought you wanted to know. Ignoring that the new home owners lost a lot is hard to
understand.
I meant no offense to you...wish you well and I don't believe you are at risk of a hurricane, It is the reason I personally would not build steel in
a hurricane area.
