BAJA NEWS SOURCES?
Nomads, especially for residents, what is your Baja news source?
At a recent c-cktail party hosted by BajaBound and BajAmigo, we were discussing the challenge of getting accurate local news info.
DENNIS suggested that I simply call him, but, I don't want to distract him from his construction and Pacifico quality control.
SD "Onion-Tribune" seems weak to me. WHAT'S YOURS?

Nomads for news........the best source is fellow Nomads (mostly).....And I agree with you about Dennis....he is too busy with the house, Pacifico
testing and now his drum lessons.
Doc:....maybe we could set up an antenna on your new place and have you host a daily (before the c-cktail hour - say 10AM) talk show with local news
reports......the BNN (Baja News Network)..for us Ensenadaites

Now, before everybody jumps all over Doc with the suggestion that we all learn to read the local newspapers, I'll say, "Yes, that's the best
suggestion."
But, for us old folks, that's a slow process and an interim source would be helpful.
Not only that but, if you rely on the newspaper for news, you have to read all of them because they are heavily slanted politically. It wasn't that
far back that the PRI party controlled the newsprint....the paper. If the news wasn't reported favorably to the PRI, they received no paper on which
to print.
Of course, there's always the local TV stations if you can raise your concentration above the cleavage but, who wants to do that?

The Nomad board is the BEST source of Baja news. During Hurricane John and the ensuing Mulege River flood, it was the ONLY news source. Nomads Marv
and Cathy were the only people there who had a satellite internet connection. For several days, they kept the reports and the photos updated on
Bajanomad. If it weren't for them, we would have experienced a total news blackout. To the rest of the world Mulege's plight was unknown.
The official weather reports were inaccurate. The media was unaware or disinterested. The major CNN story was about all the unfortunate gringo
vacationers in Cabo who had their vacations spoiled because they had to stay inside, at the bar, and drink margaritas and cervezas.

Often the NOMADS board is the ONLY reliable source of info on many subjects, not just Baja related.
As I knew that many Baja buffs also had an interest and ties to Owens Valley, I decided that it was appropriate to post the INYO COUNTY IN FLAMES
thread here on NOMADS. I apologize if this offends anybody, but it seemed like the right thing to do at the time.
There are so few really reliable news sources any more, especially about relatively small events that are perhaps only of interest to those
involved--------
Hope you all understand, and I did not abuse my membership in the NOMADS board, even tho I stretched the criteria a little here.

You are quite correct! There really isn't much, if any, news being reported on the Inyo fire. So thank you. Also, I too feel sorry for your property
loss, and the injured firefighters.
I think Doug should establish the Bajanomad as a commercial news service along the model of AP (Associated Press).

For me, Baja Nomad is the best source of news and information about Baja.
But, La Voz de la Frontera which is the newspaper in Mexicali has a website. I would think it could be useful to those in San Felipe and
Mexicali.

BajaGuy, for the a.m. radio show from my new "pub", we'll need to recruit a traffic reporter, financial/biz analyst, political hack, entertainment
editor and a weather personality with a "face for radio". Nominations?

Be warned that all info should be taken with a (very ) large grain of salt.
Both of the publishers have their own agenda to promote.
