Loboron,
You are half right. What you are missing is the "Use" tax. In your example, when the wedding ring arrived in California, it was subject to use tax in california, regardless of whether or not sales tax was collected in another state or jurisdiction. Another example - you buy an item on eBay form someone in Georgia. He ships it to you, and there is no sales tax on the transaction. Wrong. The seller has no obligagtion to collect sales tax in his state because it is being shipped to another state, and the seller has no connection to California. The buyer (you) is then responsible for paying use tax on that item because you intend to use it in California. However, if your intent was to use it in, say, Texas, and you were receiving it in Cal as a convenience, then you would file an exemption with CA and pay Texas use tax.

s for your Indian example, as long as the car stays on the reservation, it will not be taxed. If it is used outside of the reservation, it becomes fair game.

As for the Mexico example, aren't you in fact importing the car? Isn't that a taxable transaction? The taxes may be far lower, but you still have to pay tax.

Whoa there, Cowboy - pull back on those reins!

Hook. Agree with your take on the selling of "used/second-hand" anything. Why should I or anybody else pay taxes on a garage sale exchange that cost the govt. nothing.:):tumble:

All retail will be operated by Porto Hussong. There will be an upscale market/ bakery/deli. A pastrami sandwich will be on the menu. You won't like the price. ;D

Does anyone know if they have already gotten permission to build this port or is this speculation at this point? The hoped for port has been in the planning stages for at least the last four years. I know that it was held up by the permit process. It was initially to be a small marina for those who purchased property on the site.

Thanks

It's just south of the Hotel Coral, 2 miles north of town.
