"the Baja governor speaks better English than the California governor"

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/morgan/20040227-999...

Mexican journalists covered the meeting between Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the fluent governor of Baja California, Eugenio Elorduy. They provided Tijuanans their current No. 1 bon mot: "All we know for sure is the Baja governor speaks better English than the California governor."

Yes, but nobody can say the name of the state as dramatically as Arnold... All together now, CALL EE FOR NEE AH! Now don't be a girlie-man... Hasta la Vista... Baby! See Arnold is bi-lingual (tri-lingual?) too, yahh!

English speaking Mexican politicos

The really interesting thing about this post is that in the "good old days" the tradition was that Mexican politicians never spoke English in public, in interviews or with the press.
I can remember a Harvard educated president addressing the California legislature, in Spanish, with an interpreter close at hand.
Same with the governors and other state officials.
Vicente Fox seems to have really trashed that tradition, now we hear him and others speaking out, clearly and fluently in English.
Not sure if that is progress, cultural retreat, or what, but it surely is an interesting trend, of late.

Local police will.

Heres whats funny,

Arnolds pronunciation is actually a lot closer to the correct way of saying California than what most Americans think its correct, so in my opinion Arnold has it right and most people are wrong.

Yes, but does Elorduy make better action movies?

Does he speak better German?
