Sirius satellite radio in Baja and Mainland Mexico
Sometime ago there was a discussion about how far south one can find Sirius radio coverage. I was talking with some folks today who, much to their
surprise, got reception all the way to the southern Mexican border.

I get strong reception all the way to Mulege and in Mulege. In the discussion you referred to, MrBillM explained that the satellite flight pattern is
eliptical...that is like a stretched figure eight. That seems to cover lots of Latitude. That's my layman's understanding of what I think he said.

I get reception everywhere in Baja down to Cabo. Not sure about mainland.

They were driving through mainland Mexico, so I can only say about land, I can't say about on the water.
On the question of why pay for something that is free, because it is more enjoyable than the free product -- especially in remote Baja.

It's $13 a month and then $7 a month for each additional reciever -- we have one in each of our cars. They give you a month free if you buy a year or
three months if you buy two years.

The map says it all. We've used Sirius perfectly to Colima, not tested beyond there as yet but fully expect it will work much farther south.

I got Sirius 2 years ago because: I wanted 2 NPR channels, the ELVIS channel, a channel solely devoted to 60's, 70s, and 80s music. There is a
SINATRA channel. Programming changes frequently enough: for months (weeks?) there was a channel devoted solely to Bruce Springsteen. Another
time, only music of The Who. Did I mention about 6 country channels, 2 jazz, etc.

relisten to 45 minutes of programming by pushing a button. I have the names of 20 songs programmed so when they come on, they play (option to listen

$12/year when I could have programming for freee after about 2.5 years. (If I change ''receivers'' there is a one time $75. charge.
Finally, why have satellite television with high definition receivers on a 52'' plasma when my 30 year old 19'' Sony is working fine with rabbit ear
antenna?
I honestly HATE commercial programming and have no dead spots in Baja. Sirius changed my life. I never get bored or have the radio off. Don't
even listen to CDs anymore. No need. Oh, and because I have a direct line from antenna to radio, sound is CD quality -- in fact, radio sounds
better than my CDs.
If you enjoy music while driving, there is no other way to go.

Ditto what Lee said. They may have playlists, but so does terrestrial radio, and the selection of Sirius stations is far broader than anything
available on terrestrial radio, even the public stations. Add that to virtually no commercials, NFL, NBA and college sports, plus local traffic every
four minutes and as much Larry the Cable Guy as anyone could want (not with the kids in the car)? It's a no-brainer.

I have never found that to be the case. They may have a playlist that repeats every two or three weeks, but that's not a problem for me since I can't
even remember what day of the week it is (baja living will do that to you).
There is so much to choose from, I find that I bounce around the dial every hour or two anyway.
Another thing. The music channels are all commercial free.
I enjoy satellite radio more than I ever thought I would.

I listen primarily to XM Track 4 (30-40s Big Band) and Track 5 (50s Pop and Rock/Roll) for my music. When I first bought the system, I was amazed at
how large their playlist was. I once listened for almost the entire trip South (six hours) and didn't hear any repeats.
A Great Investment.

I do love my Sirius too. And, Lee, after living here for 5 years without it, it certainly changed my life too. I just bought another receiver with a
remote and 30 presets. I can change channels if something comes on that I do not want to listen to. I have found that if you listen to certain
channels they do play the same songs over and over, so I switch around a lot. Margaritaville is great IMHO although I never listen to concerts....one
can only take so many Jimmy songs. His daughter, Savannah Jane, does a terrific show, always fresh and she has actually gotten me to listen to a few
soft rap(is there such a thing?) songs.

I havent really gotten into the sports, talk, comedy, martha stewart kinda stuff. I like to listen to baseball on the radio but dont really have much
interest in that anymore after 20 years of Oakland A's season tix.
If you dont have sat radio and you live here in Baja, you should consider getting one...you will not be disappointed

My Sirius works great when I'm in Baja. One thing not mentioned is that you can isten to Sirius on your computer with a reagular subscription or
there is an internet only subscription available as well.
