Open a Mexican bank account and wire money down or you can now deposit your US check into you Mex. account free. Well, Bancomer anyway.

And if you make it a dollar account you can go into the bank and write and cash a check at NO cost. THEIR check, of course, and this is according to my wife, who does all the money.:lol:

Are there any monthly service fees charged by Bancomer, Russ? Vandy?

Interest would be nice but I'd settle for no fees.

rhintransit........ The telegraph and telephone offices are combined in Loreto (next door to the post office). After reading the earlier post I asked about the BOA 'Safe Send' program when I paid my telephone bill this morning. The lady at the office was familiar with the program and said that the office does disburse moneys transmitted through Safe Send. Earlier this morning I checked with BOA to see if it was possible for one with an existing account to add the Safe Send feature in absentia. I was told that to add the feature one has to go in person to a bank in the US.

Here again, according to the better half, NO service charges as long as you keep your balance over $ 500.00 .
Important, since we had a friend whose balance went below that, and in a matter of a few month that balance disappeared.:P:P:lol::lol:

Roberta---I just use the ATM machine. It allows me to access money in my B of A account or my Pomona First account. There is a small charge each time but it is minimal. I can get up to 5,000 pesos per day. I don't mind the charge because of the convenience of the ATM. And yes there is a telegraph office in Loreto---next to the Post Office.

Safe Send

I use BankofAmerica Safe Send often. You need to have an account with BofA, sign up for the program and then can send up to 3,000 each month to yourself. There are two banks you can select to send the money to so you can pick it up. Santander which I use and another, you will have to check with BofA for its name. Works like this, you call a telephone number, and request the money to be sent, give the name of the person who will collect it, they give you a 7 digit number. You go to any branch of the bank, give them your name and the number, show proper ID, and provide a photocopy of the ID and they give you the money. No charges and at the International rate. You need to set up with BofA the names of people to whom you plan to send the money. I opted for myself, my wife and a trusted neighbor.
