FM3/tourist permit question
I searched for but did not find a thread on this:
We are planning on entering Baja California at Mexicali and traveling south through San Felipe to Bahia de los Angeles.
We would like to avoid the chaos at the boarder towns when finalizing our tourtist permits.
Is it true that if we get our tourist permits at the border we can get them stamped (pay for them/finalize them) at a bank in San Felipe?
If anyone can offer suggestions and/or information on this process via this specific route that would be very helpful - thank you!

It's really easy at Tijuana for the first time through - second stamping - proof of residence, is another thing - make sure you can get both at the
same place wherever you go - Marv

Al G Just sorta bumping the question. Gringorio asked specifically about getting
tourist permits in Mexicali and having them approved in San Felipe. Have read
numerous posts regarding where, when and how to get the FMT and FM3 visas.
Reminds me of the saying "If you have one watch you know what time it is, if you have more than one you can never be sure".

I don't got know watch. Time is on my side, yes it is.
I'm heading north, can I get an FM-3 at the border and have it stamped in Las Vegas?

Get your FMT in Mexicali and bring it to San Felipe if that's where you show residence for the FM3. Then do the rest of the stuff in SF. They will
NOT issue a FMT in San Felipe to get you started on the FM3.

Gringorio: I don't think you are talking about an FM3. That is for full-time residents. Sounds like are looking at the FMT - a tourist permit. From
previous posts, we've learned you must obtain it at your point of entry, pay the fee and get it stamped. Then you have 180 days to enjoy yourself in
Baja.
So, using the search function, try FMT. Next question is what services are available at the Mexicali crossing. Another Nomad can answer that, I am
confident.

Get your FM-T's at Mexicali East crossing.
Enter border, drive into Declaration lane, tell guards your going to Immigration. Park almost immediatly, office is right there adjacent to guards. Go
to counter, ring bell, have your Passport or Birth Certificate available, fill out the form, go to bank window, 200 yards away, pay and get stamped,
return to Immigration, they stamp it, your outa there.
Return FM-T in person within 6 months. They even stamp it again!

At Mexicali East crossing just pull in the extreme right lane and tell them you want a FMT. They'll point you where to park and go in to immigration
and get the paper, Walk 50 yards to the Bank, then back and get it stamped and you have 180 days as a tourist. FM3 is for anyone who has property or
wants to leave property in Baja. You must have a address in Baja to get the FM3.

gringorio, I get mine at the East Port in Mexicali. Either get there early 8am or just after 3pm and should be quick and painless. The tourist
permit is paid for right at the little bank there. Just drive into the new MexicanEast Port and get in the line to the far right and you will drive
right by Secondary. Have your window down slow way down and tell them tourist permit Immigration and they just way you on. You will continue about
30 yards to the parking lot with a line of offices on your right. Park in any open space and go to the office that is second from the end where you
first drove in. They speak English inside also so you do not have an issue with that. Once you pay at the bank you will have to go back up to where
Secondary is and go inside the big building with the glass doors. When you enter Immigration is all the way to your right and there is a sign telling
you it is Immigration, then they will have you do the paperwork. Then back to the bank for the stamp. I think I got the routine down right either
way the bank first then Immigration and then bank again. I had to get tourist permits and a vehicle permit as I went into mainland from Nogales and I
wanted my paperwork ahead of time. I also found it easier to give the vehicle permit back once my 6 months ran out. Have never heard about getting
it in San Felipe but maybe possible just have not been down there looking for a tourist permit(only cold beers and fish/shrimp tacos).
